I knew it had to be an app order. No one would order that out loud making eye contact

It started when a Starbucks barista (Josie) shared a very detailed drink order he made on May 1st. He captioned the image with, “On todays episode of why i wanna quit my job.” Ashley Nicole Black from HBO’s A Black ( Read more... )

retail food service works DO NOT MAKE ENOUGH for this bullshit. At best we get to laugh with each other after this person leaves in a 'girl, WTF' way at worst it's just exhausting

it is TOUGH, I am always so patient with food service workers.
I worked one month at a burrito place (got fired lmao) but even in that time frame, the ridiculous requests... the level of bitching and moaning if you squeezed even a little too much sour cream etc on their shit..

lol Employees talking to their friends instead of serving customers, and then acting like the customers are the rude ones is a classic Starbucks/coffee shop experience.

the worst (for me) is that (in addition to the crap pay) you MUST be nice about it. like if you could just speak your truth and say "hey gal, that's a lot! and i'm worried about your blood sugar levels. i'm gonna do it for you, but give me a minute" it wouldn't feel so damn oppressive. at least to me.

being nice - lest you get a complaint for an ATTITUDE - is TRULY the worst part. One thing these masks did is allow me not to have to smile all the damn time. and it's extra for me being black because white people will read tone or attitude into ANYTHING they want, even if there was none.

that sounds truly vile and i am glad you got a little reprieve with the masks. maybe they'll stay and hope you have a cool manager who has your back

it can be half and half but mostly on my side, largely because she's overly exhausted because we're down to 8(?) people at my job and she's COMPLETELY over it but in general she's fine if a little high strung

I don’t think I could survive my current white-collar job without the faking-it skills I learned in retail.

I’m using them right now against my bold-ass coworker who [is being an absolute Karen, so I’m venting.]got put on a team with me and had the absolute nerve to complain to my manager about how *she* should be running the team, not the new manager that they hired. And we share the same job title (along with the other team member), so it’s not like she’s even more experienced or anything - I have supervisory *and* project experience. I knew what kind of person she was from the moment I met her, so while her belief isn’t surprising, the fact that she actually was bold enough to say it was... )

yep. i worked as a barista way back when i was like 19-20 for a small local chain. i had this one regular who wanted the milk for her coffee served hot. like scalding, bloody murder hot. one time i served her her coffee and she touched the cup, then berated me for not making the milk hot enough and she made me redo the whole order in front of her so she could see the temperature of the milk. she started bringing her own thermometer after that. i did not like her because that milk we had to make super hot for her had to be wasted out every time she came in since nobody on this planet takes milk that fucking hot.

see and this is why being nice matters! we also had a regular customer when I worked at a coffee place who like scalding hot chocolates but he was a nice quiet weirdo so we just called him "200 degree hot chocolate guy" and would always prep his order as soon as we saw him enter the store

We used to have "latte man" at our place that we'd start the order for when we saw him lol. Again, because he was nice and chill and would just make a little small talk then quietly enjoy his latte and a paper in the corner table. 7.30 every Wednesday without fail.

Yea!!! People need to get this. Your attitude DOES matter. A lot of customer service is discretionary. And if you're at least nice and patient I'll be way more inclined to go out of my way to help
