How does it cannily weaken a theatrical competitor?

In guessing because of the instant availability of Netflix right?

it's so crazy to me that for two movies you can earn 100 million

This is so much money for a non established franchise.

I was actually wondering how these streaming services determine that their original properties made back the money they invested. Like Disney+ projects have a HUGE budget, plus all the promo.

we don't know exactly, but i remember an article here that Netflix considers how many existing subscribers watched a show/movie and how many new subscribers that show/film generated in *i think* the first two weeks. They add up that conversion rate and that gets you how profitable a show/film is. And if a show does not increase their conversion rate the following season, it gets canned. I guess the same applies for movie franchises.

Which kinda makes sense if you look back and see how they're releasing one season of a TV show in 'Part one' and 'Part two', You produce the entire first season but if the 2nd part of the first season is not profitable, you don't bother renewing it for a 2nd season.

Interesting but then the question is would the fourth-fifth show of Marvel or Star Wars be able generate as many new subscribers as the first ones? And when it opens in new markets, how do they consider their numbers?
