Box office and critical smash hit starring Daniel Craig and written and directed by Rian Johnson.
In February 2020, Lionsgate was officially moving ahead on a sequel to Knives Out.
On March 31, Lionsgate would not be releasing the sequel at all.
2 sequels would be made by Netflix, a $469 million deal with Johnson and his producing partner Bergman.
The pact gave Johnson immense creative control. He doesn’t have to take notes from the streamer. Craig must star in the sequels and that each must have at least the budget of the 2019 movie ($40 million range).
Johnson, Bergman and Craig stand to walk away with upwards of $100 million each.

For Netflix, despite the price tag, the deal made sense on several levels.
It gets an instant and proven franchise with sequels to a film that grossed $311 million globally.
It cannily weakens a theatrical competitor.
