The Guardian says it’s been years since Angelina was in a film worth watching, but she has made being a celebrity its own art form ( Read more... )

The tabloids are way better at making people famous than actual movies are and this was especially true in the early 2000s.

I once saw this exact article but it was written about Demi Moore instead lol

How she was an a list (arguable...) actress with a weak film resume

I do think that is true with Demi. A Few Good Men is still her best film and sticks out compared to her other, usual movies like St. Elmo's Fire and Striptease

Yeah, Demi has had a couple of iconic movies that you can't take away from her. As shitty as those Charlie's Angels reboots are with how they aged, you also can't deny she really made a splash with how good she looked in those during the 2000s.

When I think of Demi, I think of Ghost, her marriage to Bruce Willis and her Vanity Fair covers.

She - and Angelina - might not be the best at their profession, but there is something magnetic about their personalities that draws people in. Their personal lives are far more intriguing than their film output (admittedly, I think they've both played into that at times too to become more famous).

I remember the Gia Carangi biopic she starred in being pretty good, but it's been years since I've watched it. She won Best Actress at the Globes for it

Which unfortunately was marred by the fact she kissed her brother on the red carpet at that awards show.

Wasn't it during the Academy Awards red carpet? When she won for Girl Interrupted, if I'm remembering correctly. She even said in her acceptance speech "...and I'm so in love with my brother right now" which kind of exacerbated the whole kiss moment.

I think it was. Her brother was her plus 1 for all of the award shows that year & added to (or started) the "weird, Hollywood wild child" thing.

RE: ONTD, is Angelina Jolie the A list most famous actress with the weakest filmography? shangri__la February 13 2021, 18:10:28 UTC
Not when Blake Lively and Katie Holmes exists. And the countless men coasting by.

Angelina's career and her level of fame are far more mismatched than Blake and Katie's (I wouldn't even call Katie A-list). And OP was only asking about actresses.

lmao. I agree. Angelina may not have a strong filmography but there are definite contenders out there that don't even have one or two things that made a real splash in cinema.

She may have had weak movies, but she made certain roles iconic. I really enjoyed her Laura Croft. But I'm biased, I'll take anything that the Tomb Raider franchise gives me.
