I do think that is true with Demi. A Few Good Men is still her best film and sticks out compared to her other, usual movies like St. Elmo's Fire and Striptease

Yeah, Demi has had a couple of iconic movies that you can't take away from her. As shitty as those Charlie's Angels reboots are with how they aged, you also can't deny she really made a splash with how good she looked in those during the 2000s.

When I think of Demi, I think of Ghost, her marriage to Bruce Willis and her Vanity Fair covers.

She - and Angelina - might not be the best at their profession, but there is something magnetic about their personalities that draws people in. Their personal lives are far more intriguing than their film output (admittedly, I think they've both played into that at times too to become more famous).

Jen Garner is really a TV star because of Alias. That's what really put her on the map and not movies.

Hm, Alias was like 20 years ago, a bit before my time, which explains why I've never seen a single episode of it. I personally only know Garner from the tabloids/being previously married to Assfleck and some movies.

As I explained to maidenhell, I think its not really fair to compare Jen Garner's flop filmography because before she even broke out into the movies, she settled down into becoming Ben Affleck's wife. She was a huge action TV star, but her actual debut/attempt in transitioning to action movies was not only a flop, it was also where she fell in love with Ben. So her film career never really was.

The article is trying to make an argument that Jolie is a famous actress but her movies suck so why is she even still a thing. I'm saying Jen Garner doesn't even have any actual movies that we can pick at. Jen settled into becoming a brand.

IMDB says that Garner made 20+ movies during the time she was married to Ben Affleck. Before their marriage she didn't have much movie-wise and being married to him and being part of a "power couple" raised her profile substantially.

Jen's filmography sucks -- I agree with you on that. She's nowhere near Jolie's status and doesn't have an Oscar or even a nomination. But I disagree that her film career "never really was." She tried and failed. At this point, she's not much more than an IG influencer calling the paps every day.

Her movies suck because her focus was the kids/family. Affleck shafted her with most of the child bearing/rearing. I think I remember her or Affleck giving an interview where they supposedly took turns with making movies/staying with the kids a while back. But are you really taking turns when Affleck was also another child with his antics and rehab half the time when he isn't making movies? That's also why most of her movies are supporting roles.

I don't think she was talented enough to ever pull something iconic or memorable like Jolie but she she could've had a decent shot with something more middling...maybe a Kate Hudson?

I think if we're willing to give Jolie a pass because she's busy being a mom and had to take a step back in her movie career while her ex was busy being a mess and making movies, we gotta give Jen the same kind of slack.

I get I may have not explained that well with my initial comments, but I haven't forgotten how big of a mess Affleck was during the course of their marriage and how Jen just had to always step up with keeping it together/stand by him. Like those times when he was in the tabloids being a mess/cheating/etc and then lo and behold she's pregnant again/out there walking her kids rehabing his image. who can have a career with that.

That may have been her introduction to fame, but that was 15+ years ago. Since then, what is she known for? Certainly not 'Peppermint' or whatever that crap movie she released was. She is now simply a media personality, known for being the "good wife", the "good mom". I feel she is very attune to her image and actively brands and markets herself as this to appeal to a mid-west, church-going, American as apple pie demographic.

What I meant to say is she peaked as a TV star and just when she tried to break into movies, she got hitched with Ben and that was it. I wouldn't really consider her as a movie star to begin with because she sort of "retired" from movies before she ever really broke through rather than keep trying at it. What does she really have under her belt? Elektra and 13 Going On 30? her filmography in movies isn't exactly vast so I feel like she should be categorized more with TV.
