I just saw a reviewer on Youtube and, besides her tearing it apart for colorist issues and lack of representation, she explained how it was queer-baiting somewhat, too.
Yup! That's the one. I thought she missed some nuance. Such as the reason so many of the lead noble characters were light-skinned was because of intermarriage. After all, the king did it, so it figures that some aristos would follow his example. Like how the Duke of Hastings was much lighter than his father. It follows that his wife was likely White. But I understood her larger point in the context of what so much media does nowadays, casting mainly light-skinned or biracial actors, especially women. Considering I never watched Bridgerton, I know way too much about it now.
I see people fawning over this and I loved period pieces but [Spoiler (click to open)]I also saw controversy over a r*pe scene being no big deal on the show. true? if so I'm def not interested
the show also leaned heavy into trying to make us feel bad for the woman (when she was the instigator) because the man "lied" to her and it was just... the last few episodes were real dumb
the 2 minute thing is so weird, especially with their new “watch a random show“ feature or whatever it’s called. you could have it on for 2mins then skip to something else and it’ll say you viewed it, my watch again list is full of shit i've skipped from that
I’m here for the return of romcoms! But Hollywood is so unoriginal they’ll take this a sign to start turning any and every romance novel into a series/film.
