Watching him in that mister Rogers film right now, so this post must be a sign but I don't know what it's telling me just yet.

It's okay, a tad weirder than expected. Bit saccharine.

I like Marvel movies, but they all have pretty much the same formula and have nothing new to offer.

There's nothing inherently wrong with a formula, especially when it's working. Besides these films entertain and can make people feel happiness and like the good guys will eventually win even if things are difficult or tragic.

And that's great! But most of the characters are one-dimensional, the acting can be mediocre, and telling the same story over and over is just lazy. Just because their formula is working, it doesn't mean they shouldn't try and be better. Like, why can't they give us a gay superhero as the lead instead of doing dumb shit like having one of the Russos say a line about his boyfriend? Or have more female friendships, instead of doing some shallow gesture by having a scene of all the women walking together?

Gay superheroes and proper female friendships wouldn't go against the formula.

They have chosen money over giving a gay main superhero. The movie would be banned in many countries.

On the female friendships front, they are just trully lazy and under the same delusion as most filmmakers that more than two women as main characters is too much. They could easily replace a moslty male hero movie for female. They just choose not to despite having a fuck ton of women in Marvel comics.

He ain't, but in other "duh" news, of course theaters are dependent on blockbusters to save them, indies sure aren't going to do the job.

Studios fund the rest of their productions based on the profit they make from franchises. They appeal to the lowest common denominator and get the biggest audience. It's what they do.
