i think quite a few took off considering the show having a relatively large ensemble cast? the days of jennifer aniston type blow ups are behind us, now that we have the internet and streaming imo

seriously. there's no real "movie" star anymore besides the ones that were already huge stars before streaming took off (cruise, pitt, kidman etc). Even now, a lot of huge A list movie actors have moved to also being in tv (kidman, streep)

I feel like most of the Mad Men cast had been on TV shows or movies already, not necessarily as leads but recurring at least or working steadily. The Friends cast, for example, had like no experience whatsoever.

True that; even the stars of the biggest franchise of all time (Avengers) have a hard time launching solo projects; Downey, Hemsworth, Pratt etc.

I wonder what Aniston's trajectory would have been if she and Pitt hadn't married at the height of their 90s fame? Like if she'd still been dating the Counting Crows singer or Tate Donovan, whose name I admittedly just saw when I couldn't actually remember the name of the band and googled 'Aniston crow band boyfriend' where google told me she dated Tate Donovan after breaking up with the crow band boyfriend. So in the spirit of this post, I'd say it might've been "Not great, Bob."

yeah it's weird now bc tv shows are just as big as some films now, but when i think of classic "hollywood stars" for me (growing up), it's got to be the top four: george clooney, julia roberts, brad pitt (no not the ocean's eleven cast) and leonardo dicaprio
