Honestly I don't see the point in this investigation. Sure it'd be sad if Diana was duped into doing this interview under false pretenses, but what was said was said. Even if she was dubiously convinced to give this interview, I don't think that would change the validity of what she said in it.

I don't think it's about the validity of her statements for her family- it's about accountability in possibly fueling her paranoia/mental health decline. There's nothing okay in what Bashir and the BBC allegedly did, whether she meant it or not.

Also, perhaps for her brother and son, it could be about the domino effect- she lost her HRH (which she was reportedly devastated by), refused royal officers who might have prevented her from getting in that car in Paris...I imagine it's about the what ifs, at least somewhat.

I don't remember where I read it but I read a really heartbreaking thing that at 12 (?) Prince William had to console his mom the best he could and told her that once he'd be king he'd give her the HRH back. She was apparently also upset that she had to bow to her kids

I’m still in season 1 of The Crown but that did throw me for the surprise when even the Queen Mother and her grandmother had to curtsy to her own daughter. I thought that was something everyone else had to do…not the Royal family too lol 😅

i don't think she would've had to bow (or more likely, curtsey) to her kids other than once william became king. especially not in private with them.

I've always wondered... What would('ve) happened if she just refused? Bowing and curtsying isn't a law, right? So would the Royal family still have the right to refuse for her to see her kids?

I’ll never understand why she/her lawyers didn’t leverage keeping the royal security as one of the terms of her divorce. After all, she got to keep her apartment in Kensington palace, why not the in house security? She should have been advised to ask for a smaller settlement in exchange for keeping the royal title and the security. Shoulda woulda coulda...

She was given security (as the mother of the heir), she refused it.

What’s your source because from what I read (and I read a lot) she was stripped of royal security along with her title. It is also one of the reasons why she dated wealthy men in high positions such as Dodi, who could provide and pay for security around the clock.

She was not stripped of security- as the mother of the heir, she was given it and refused it. Presumably this is why William wants the investigation to be done.

"She had wilfully decided that she did not want any of the royal protection officers with her because she thought they were spying on her - probably thanks to Martin Bashir," said Miss Brown, the author of The Diana Chronicles biography.

This is not true. Brown actually stated that Diana was stripped of the security given to the royal family along with the travel budget and was only permitted police protection when attending public events. After the divorce she had to fund her day to day bodyguards herself. This is also confirmed in a documentary that her brother approved of and took part in.

Because apparently that guy has a history of using underhanded and bordering on illegal methods to get an interview. Or so I've heard, never watched any of his interviews.
