I think the Crown really should’ve kept the cast from season 1-2 and used prosthetics and makeup to age them. I like the concept but I only see Olivia Colman as Olivia Colman whereas I really saw Claire disappear into the role. Tobias Menzies is a better actor than Matt Smith but I dont really care for Philip and the redemption arc they’re going for makes it obvious the show is created by a (converted) royalist

IA, changing the cast was a good idea in theory, but in practice it's been very distracting and it makes the show feel disjointed. I also don't think the producers fully realized how much people would love the original cast.

lol, but honestly that would have been weird and that almost never works

but i agree about Olivia Colman

Neither does this tbh
Like the above user said it’s distracting and feels disjointed like a different show

i'm usually someone that is never for the prosthetics route but the new cast is really missing the mark and lacks chemistry

I think the biggest issue was them going for too many "names". Apart from Lithgow and Smith, the first season introduced us to fresh new faces so it seemed weird to replace them with industry veterans.

Also God knows Matthew Goode could've stuck around and played his real age for Season 3. Forever laughing at Anna Chancellor as his mom.

Yes that’s a good point. Because they were fresh faces the audience didn’t necessarily wouldn’t see them as the previous roles they had and I think that was especially crucial for QE2

they wasted Matthew! Oh my god we finally get him on screen and then we get paid dust

True, although I appreciate whoever made the decision to have him be as slutty and shirtless as possible.

Lord knows I love Matthew Goode but that was such a reach lmao
They could play siblings (or even lovers lbr)

Given Goode's passion for older women he may have signed up due to that confusion.

I like Colman but she wasn’t as good as Claire and HBC wasn’t as good as Vanessa Kirby

But I think Matt and Claire would’ve looked ridiculous as Josh and Erin’s parents. Idk how that would’ve worked.
