Indie Film Release Guide: June 26th [An ONTD Original]

There are no major studio releases to speak of this week, but there are plenty of indie features to go around: several docs, several dramas, and a couple of comedies, too.

The films listed are from studios other than the “Big Six” - Paramount, Warner Brothers, 20th Century Fox, Universal, Columbia/Sony and Disney. Check out the posts from the past few weeks for more movies that may have already come to VOD: June 19th, June 12th, and June 5th.

Storyline:[TW: Abuse]An August 2016 article in the Indianapolis Star about USA Gymnastics protecting coaches accused of abuse leads to the explosive revelation that the USAG women’s team doctor, Larry Nassar, had been abusing athletes for over two decades. This film follows the IndyStar reporters as they reveal the extensive cover-up that allowed abuse to thrive within elite-level gymnastics for more than two decades, the attorney who is fighting the institutions that failed these athletes, and most importantly, the brave whistle-blowers who refuse to be silenced.
What you should know: The song in the trailer is Julian Baker’s “Appointments”.

House of Hummingbird

rise to fame and his struggle with addiction.

Ella Fitzgerald: Just One of Those Things

Storyline: Known as “The First Lady Of Jazz,” Ella Fitzgerald’s sublime tone, emotive delivery, and supreme improvisatory scat vocalizations laid the groundwork for generations of vocalists. However, outside of the spotlight, Ella was a very private person, conflicted with reconciling her public image and hunger for adoring audiences with a longing for domestic life with her husband and son.
What you should know: Director Leslie Woodhead has been directing documentaries since the late 1960’s.

What you should know: The film was originally scheduled for theatrical release last summer, but a bump to Spring 2020 ended up putting in the dead zone for theatrical releases.
