I've met quite a few NHL "nice guys" and it's all bullshit. Do yourself a favour and stop supporting this trash.

Nah. Hockey makes me happy.

Also, I know for a fact that Sidney Crosby is a good guy. You can keep trying to tell me he's not tho!

idk what being nice to some fans at some events has to do with being privileged and entitled lol it can be both

I'm not talking about fan events. I'm talking about me reading up on them and never seeing a bad thing about Sidney. Ever.

my point is, being kind =/= not privileged

most hockey players, especially sid in this case, are born into privilege it’s what funds them playing and extremely expensive sport. they’re bred from a young age to think nothing else matters and are paid literal millions to play a game. that. is. privilege!

hockey culture is such a fundamentally white and exclusive culture with so many problems and until players of extreme high positions like a crosby or a tavares start denouncing giving voices to platforms like b*rst**l and denouncing those going to the white house to laugh and guffaw with an incompetent hateful orange buffoon nothing will change. but like they won’t. because it doesn’t matter to them. again, because they live extremely privileged lives and it doesn’t have to matter to them. PR events like #hockeyisforeveryone or #bellletstalk are just platitudes the nhl doesn’t care and i can probably name players in one hand who actually care

i’m not trying to attack your favourite players specifically but they’re all guilty

Sidney was SUPER poor growing up. Like, utilities getting cut off poor. He got there because of skill. He made his team offer lower price tickets. He started a program to give kids free hockey gear. He is not who you are making him out to be.

i mean his dad played professional hockey and could afford to get his son into hockey. that’s already a lot more well off than a lot of other kids. his skill and love for hockey got him noticed and he was a celebrity at the age of 15. he was bred to be the hockey messiah

i’m not trying to make him out to be anything lol. i also think crosby will be the first to tell you he lives a very lucky life. all (white) hockey players benefit from the status quo, despite how extremely problematic it is for the rest of us

Troy was never a star. LOL https://torchtoburn.tumblr.com/post/176738098481/boy-wonder-a-comprehensive-primer-on-sidney for anyone that wants to know the truth. His parents delivered newspapers to pay for his hockey. They let things get cut off to pay. They were poor.

He would actually tell you that he was poor and it made him the person he is.

i’m sure all hockey parents make tons of sacrifices for their kids - buying equipment, waking up at early hours, paying for tournaments. but the fact that they were able to, while sure making sacrifices, meant they could afford to. idk why we’re splitting hairs here. you can either afford to put your kids through hockey or you can’t ( ... )

He started a camp: https://twitter.com/87Foundation

Started the little Pens https://www.nhl.com/penguins/community/learn-to-play

I mean I can go on and on. He has done lots and lots to give back.

but don’t you think encouraging kids to go to hockey camps is a little meaningless if they’re just wading into a culture that is broken as toxic??? it’s like planting one tree to stop climate change instead going after the oil industry

I mean, why is he given so much shit but when I bring up that someone like PK Subban doesn't do shit to help the black kids that look up to him I get shit on?

I know that the NHL is garbage in that hockeyisforeveryone is garbage. I speak up on it every day. Just not here. I do advocate for change in the NHL. However I will not act like Sidney Crosby is the problem.
