this article doesn't make it clear but I think she wrote that she had run into him somewhere and then he emailed her afterward and mentioned it.

Because I'm reading her book and reliving the 2003 of it all - When they were dating, John was constantly breaking up with her then professing his love to get her back. She moved on with Tony and so he upped his game, hanging out with her family, telling them how much he loved her, etc. He was friends with Pete Wentz who was with Ashlee at the time so he still had an in with her family. She would tell Tony every time John reached out to her and show him whatever text/email he sent. Tony went through her phone one night and saw an email from him she hadn't shown him (allegedly asking her about how to use the shower at her mom's house???). Tony saw it, freaked out, accused her of seeing John behind his back, and dumped her.

She said Tony's house was like a frat house. Beautiful expensive home but he taped trash bags to the windows because it didn't occur to him to get blinds. There were bros there constantly getting drunk and playing Madden.
