I saw it last week and it was such a nightmare. I expected I’d have more fun but I hated the music sooo much on top of literally everything else so I couldn’t enjoy it in a “so bad it’s good” way. My mom thought it was enjoyable though and me and all my friends shit on it the whole time lol...I felt bad but goddamn, it’s hideous.

I will say Taylor is one of the better parts of the movie...but that’s not saying much.

that's always BEEN the issue with cats. the music sucks. it's not catchy, the plot is stupid, and it's overall trash. no star-studded cast or costume design can save THAT dialogue and THAT music.

Exactly. I never understood how this stayed on Bway for so long. I actually detest 90% of ALW's musicals, though.

idg why people say it's unfair to call it taylor's flop. under the normal circumstances i would agree, seeing that it is such a small character, but seeing how deeply the movie production, taylor's team and taylor herself tied her image to the movie trying to paint her as one of the stars (promoting her more than the actual lead) i think it is fair to tie the flop to her, no one is saying she is the reason it flopped, just that it belongs to her.

also let's not pretend that she was sure it was going to get her an oscar nomination for original music.

it's the team behind the movie that put her front and center in a more disproportionate way

please, as if she and her team hadn't agreed on it and were encouraging it. they believed it to be a guarantee oscar bait movie and taylor and her team wanted everyone to know that she was a big part of it.

and i never said that hooper shouldn't be dragged for this? he should, he shouldn't be able to direct anything after this mess (but ya know he will). my whole point is that people can call it taylor's flop.

Yeah, I was tempted to see it with friends for a laugh until I started seeing a bunch of reviews like yours in that it is just BAD and not in a fun way. I'm not spending my money to be bored

I liked the music but it was weird. It’s a weird musical and they made it weirder. I still recommend it though. It’s hilarious.
