that's because it's not. jesse lacey IS disgusting and he absolutely took advantage of his status to groom young, underage fans, but the bulk of the music is not "about children." Anyone who is remotely familiar with them knows this, and most of their CDs are also heavy on christian themes/are religious and are more about that than relationships

yeah it really threw me. i was a big fan as well but completely checked out when the scandal broke so i was like holy shit how did i miss something this big!?
i absolutely do not want to defend him at all, but as someone who still listens to them (but doesn't stream bc that pig isn't getting any money from me) because it's kinda therapeutic for me, their lyrics are not about children. i absolutely couldn't listen to them if they were. unless you know something i don't know, in which case - tell me, he wasn't writing about children.
It came out that particular songs, specifically on their second and third album, were about relationships he had that were with underage girls. I'm not gonna sugarcoat that, writing a romantic song about a 16 year old when you're pushing 30 is writing about a child.

listen, if you're going to make a choice to delve into a topic like this, you should consider leaving yourself open to the possibility and likelihood that you're going to be having a conversation you neither like nor identify with. how i, as a victim of both childhood rape, teenage rape, and adult rape, choose to deal with my own personal trauma, is not for you to judge. i asked for clarification on something. your judgement, presumptuousness, and condescension are neither asked for nor appreciated. but again, thank you for clarifying and answering my original question.
