Gaga definitely benefitted from the fact that NO ONE in the game at that point was doing anything interesting. There was so much filler artists that weren't gonna last past a year or 2 going around the time she debuted. None of the previous mainstream heavy-hitters were doing much either.
But to her credit she earned her success cause she was the only one putting in the WORK and time into her career. There was a clearly curated image and presentation that hit all the marks.
I always thought she maybe should've stayed in this era and image a little longer before it got too "all over the place" with the born this way era.

I just still can’t fuck with her cause of the R. Kelly stuff. But if if we remove that, it’s wild to me that she had some fantastic jams and the voice to back it up and creatively never really landed again musically. She was gonna be the one and she wasn’t. The songs weren’t there. The gimmicks got tired.
But fuck I can’t believe it’s been ten years. 3-5 maybe. Fuck time flies.
