I've been off work sick this week, so I have watched a lot of films - Lego Batman, Sweet Virginia, A Thing Called Love and rewatched Zodiac (annual viewing). Zodiac is my favourite Fincher film, it does such an incredible job conveying the frustration of the case.

Hoping to catch Ad Astra (more like BrAd Astra!), The Goldfinch and The Farewell at the cinema this weekend.

I watched Midsommar and loved it. Need that director's cut asap.

Watched Ad Astra and it was just awful. No coherent plot, everything seemed very formulaic and it wasn't a case of an interesting story. Just more like a 'story by numbers' kind of thing. Like, looking at films like it it felt like they were just going from step to step because it was expected, without any real explanation as to why this was happening, why it was necessary. Even the acting didn't feel like anyone's best work.

Also saw Hustlers and JLo has owned my ass for years, and continues to own it. Genuinely enjoyed that film and would recommend.

Saw The Kitchen today. Pretty decent. Worth a watch, absolutely.

Ready or Not and Joker are next on the list. I love a crappy horror, and I'm curious as to the hype behind Joker. Then in a couple of weeks I'll find time for Judy.

I watched "Sink or Swim" (Le Grand Bain), it starts off as a pretty mediocre French artsy film but it definitely gets better in the second half, when it is much less pretentious

the japanese zombie movie looks fun

I think Sing or Swim goes from pretty mediocre french artsy film to generic underdog comedy. But it's sweet so I forgive its shortcomings lmao.
