Because right now because they own Fox, they already own the FX streaming services, and they already own a majority share (though not all) of Hulu, and will own Disney+. So in fact they're streamlining (sorry, couldn't resist) from three services, to two.
Never mind that there are TONS of streaming services available, on Amazon alone, besides Amazon itself (which btw, is a bigger company than Disney) there's like Acorn, and BritBox and HBO, and Starz and Hallmark, and on. Never mind Crackle, and Netflix, and soon Universal/Comcast/NBC (in addition to the NBC streaming service. WB is going to make HBO Max, in addition to the DC streaming service they already have. Apple (which is also bigger than Disney) is going to be getting their own streaming service.
So Disney will be in charge of fewer companies, and they have plenty of competition now, with more to come.
So they control neither a vertical or horizontal means of production. Or indeed any production, as they make content.
