I have been thinking about getting either a newer Xbox (we have a 360 that is definitely on its last legs) or Playstation at some point, but this sounds like it might be more than we'd need. Is there a consensus on what's better/has the best games?

Honestly, Sony has the upper hand with games thanks to their first party developers. I’d go with them over XBox. But I am biased so there’s that. At the end of the day, both consoles are similar and have great games each and pretty much the same 3rd party games. But imo, it’s Sony’s exclusives that put them at the top.
