• The still untitled console (lbr, it’ll be PlayStation 5) has been in development for four years.

• Will not be released this year.

• Dev kits are currently being deployed to developers.

• Naturally has a more powerful CPU/GPU: “The CPU is based on the third generation of AMD’s Ryzen line and contains eight cores of the company’s new 7nm Zen 2 microarchitecture. The GPU, a custom variant of Radeon’s Navi family, will support ray tracing, a technique that models the travel of light to simulate complex interactions in 3D environments.”

• The AMD chip will also include a custom unit for 3D audio: “The result, Cerny says, will make you feel more immersed in the game as sounds come at you from above, from behind, and from the side.”

• PlayStation VR and 8K support.

• SSD support for improved loading times.

• Will continue to use Blu-Ray discs as their main media of choice.

• Is backwards compatible with PlayStation 4 titles.
