Popping in to say Adam Driver was outstanding in Burn This! Was lucky enough to see it last week. He legitimately took my breath away several times throughout the play with his performance.

I'm a fan of his, and I've always thought he was so talented. But I was NOT PREPARED, lol. I swear, I said under my breath "holy shit," like a good dozen times during the play.

Same! Like I was pumped to see him anyway but he really was super magnetic. Even my husband loved him and he doesn’t like theater at all.

I agree! Especially because I was expecting a morose and self-serious performance and he was...not that. I thought he was great!

And I told this story in another post, but some chick kept yelling out when he was in his underwear. I almost passed out from embarrassment.

People who haven't watched the full breadth of his film work really have no idea of his range. Seriously, that man can do ANYTHING. He is so ridiculously talented, it's like OH MY GOD!

I had a few read reports like yours before we saw it last Saturday, but I thought she was good! The whole cast was excellent.

ITA! I was surprised at how funny it was. Adam in particular, and the actor who played Larry was also hilarious.

And unfortunately, no, Keri was still pretty one-note. Then again, acting opposite Adam & the Larry guy who play such bombastic characters, it can't be easy. I mean, she was fine, but I came away from the play being blown away with the men in the play much more than with her.

in fairness her part is sooo underwritten
i wish we'd gotten to see her dance tbh. or my bff suggested it would've been awesome to have two real dancers do the part of the show she choreographed, if even for a minute, and i think that would've added something to it. their whole love affair was really ???

ITA, her part is written as the "straight man," so to speak. But I was reading that the original run of the play starred John Malkovich & Joan Allen. I couldn't help but wonder what someone like Joan Allen did with the role, y'know?

Honestly, I found she came most alive in her intimate scenes with Adam, lol.

Her role has "The Chick" written all over it. The play is good, but the writing has not aged well.

Even a short scene of her stretching or dancing a bit would have been something! It was like she had no inner life, she just *talked* about it.

I will say, I thought she was a lot better in Act 2 than in Act 1. Like she needed to warm up.

Yeah, but Joan Allen got outstanding kudos for her performance, so I dunno...
