Category fraud is real this year especially in supporting actress. Imagine nominating three leads in a supporting category all while leaving out the best supporting performance of the year in Regina King.

Also I can’t at Margot getting in supporting and Ronan being completely shut out even though she acted her way around Margot. A joke lmfao

They really need to change the rules around what is eligible for supporting because IA this category is nonsense.

It’s very annoying because Emma Stone, Rachel Weisz and Emily Blunt were not supporting in their films. The former two only went supporting to ensure their nominations and I’m sure Paramount put Blunt in supporting so not to clash with Mary Poppins.

But that’s not fair to actresses who are actually supporting in their films. There were so many great supporting performances this year imo and they’re being left out so these women can get nominations for the sake of getting nominated. It’s bull shit.

It’s particularly bad when a WOC gets snubbed in favor of white actresses committing category fraud (and all of whom have had plenty of accolades throughout their career).

To make it even worse Viola Davis, a WOC, was called out on category fraud a few years back for Fences back but Emma, Rachael and Emily are all doing it but no one is saying anything.

Yeah, IA that Saoirse was far more impressive than Margot, and if anyone was getting nominated it should have been her.

Not to be conspiracy theory-esque about it but is it possible that Margot's nom was a paid of thing like Lily Collins nom for that terrible Warren Beatty movie a few years ago almost literally had to be? Maybe her team saw that she wasn't getting any traction this award season and tried to boost her chances by making sure she got a SAG nom. Idk, maybe that's nuts. I don't really know how Hollywood works, lol.

Wouldnt be surprised if these awards are bought. I mean before the Harvey Weinstein thing came out, it was pretty known that studios (especially Weinstein) bought their awards. I don't think things have changed.

If they're not bought then there is a lot of favors and ass kissing that's for sure.

It’s a little more complicated than simply buying an award though? If it were that easy, big studios wouldn’t have lost to Weinstein as much as they did, since they could definitely outspend him.

It’s very different “buying” a golden globe and a sag award. The globes nominating body is a relatively small group that you can wine and dine into supporting your film, while SAG has a huuuuuge membership (and even though there’s a smaller sample selected to vote each year, studios aren’t privy to that list) which means you can’t do much other than holding screenings, getting aggressive with how early you send screeners, etc. Honestly, sometimes people just have bad taste.
