I've seen quite a few people go "Someone I liked shoved a piece of paper in front of me and said 'sign it', so I did."

Yeah Emma Thompson said the same thing iirc

Also Emma was clear in her retraction that she had the wrong information about what Polanski actually did.

I need to get ahold of checks from these people if they sign that haphazardly.

Do it, they sign so many autographs, signing stuff is literally their second top talent; and for some actors, their only talent.

ngl this is the dumbest shit I've ever heard tho lol I refuse to believe a single person who uses it as their excuse.

why? that kind of behaviour is so common. especially for petitions.

I have signed a shitton of petitions, but never without reading one, and I'm not a public figure w/ a reputation on the line.

Honestly, if celebs want to pass off responsibility like this, I want names. Who is the person who allegedly took advantage of you? Who do you trust so much that you didn't bother reading or thinking about your actions before you took them?

bc for all that liberals criticize conservatives for not caring about women & sexual assault (and don't get me wrong, i think conservatives are worse in this respect) there are a lot of liberals who also don't care about sexual assault if it inconveniences them. people can be stunningly selfish & self-absorbed regardless of political affiliation.

Yeah, this is true. Some people's empathy only extends to a certain point, whether ethical or not, and then after that they'll do all sorts of mental gymnastics to avoid acknowledging the problem.

conservatives = "women should be private property"
liberals = "women should be public property"

can't win lol we basically just gotta be out here for ourselves because ain't nobody else gonna be, unfortunately.
