it would be easier to give him a nice send off saying maybe he's doing something amazing at starfleet academy rather than killing his character off

I agree, just say he's retired from Starfleet or on leave or something. Killing the character off-screen is in poor taste imo

i think that's the route they will end up going for, it'd be kinda tasteless to kill him off and jj knows it
