Even if he was working there for the money... so what? I'm supposed to mock someone because they work as a cook in a chain restaurant? That is so condescending, rude, and shitty. I hate it when people mock other people because they perceive their jobs as "low" or "trashy." That shit is ugly and classist.
Completely agree, this is all kinds of fucked up. It's similar to when people tell their kids, "oh don't want to end up working at McDonalds all your life." Like... Why? Those people bust their asses to provide you a service, and you want to look down on them? Fuck you.
Exactly, esp because for some people who have grown up in poverty or had really unlucky, difficult lives, working a minimum wage job is still a very noble accomplishment.
My sister is weirdly classist, I say weirdly because she works for a non profit and volunteers with women's shelters, there's definitely a big part of her that cares
But then she went on and on about how she was at a party and she asked some girl what she did and the girl worked at McDonald's and my sister acted like it was the most awkward thing in the world, who cares
I hate this shit not only for the reasons you said but also because I know someone that legit works at McDonalds corporate headquarters for my state and she started just working there as a crew member as a teen. McDonalds was slowly promoting her, telling her if she got certified for this or that she could get another promotion, etc, and now she's making six figures and has herself sorted. She got where she is by working her ass off for McDonalds no matter what they asked her to do, and now she's got a job a lot of young business majors I know would kill for.
this. this so much. people scoff at places like wendys and mcdonalds but even those GMs make major money too. there is this store called Wawa in certain parts of the east coast that is like heaven. There's a deli, gas station, snacks, drinks etc. They even have their own line of products which are awesome. Those GMs of those stores makes $100k. $100k. I was so shocked when I found that out. I never would have guessed. Start out small and work your way up, pay your dues and if you are a good employee, it'll work out for you.
lmao my friend is trying to convince me to work at his Wawa. This thread is perfectly timed. I need to suck it and accept that a good paying job is a good paying job.
I love Wawa! I just moved back to DC after being in the South for a few years and when I started seeing Wawa appear on the highway signs, I knew I was home.
They're in Virginia and Maryland, not it the city itself. (I was driving up I-95 from Georgia. And most of the ones in MD are hidden along highway 301 (the back-road that takes you from Baltimore to Richmond). It makes sense. I wouldn't get food from a gas station if I was in a city (and I like their sandwiches!).
Yes! My sister has a marketing degree and she worked and target all throughout college couldn't find a job after and kept working at target they kept promoting her and now she's manager of a branch and makes very close to 6 figures. But when I say, my sister works at target. People always look like she's the loser of the family or something so dumb
