Chris wanted me to update so here i go in waves. I guess i haven't said anything about my new life and probably ought to.
School - I kinda like grad school I guess there is something about school in general that I like. It's something i'm pretty good at and it makes me feel competent as a person. The class I really impress in is Cultural Marginalization and Resistance. I am able to hold my own in discussions with 3rd year Ph.D. students. I give credit in no small part to all the things that we used to discuss at oberlin simply as a matter of course (the class is taught by the director of Graduate Studies in the program so can you say rocking letter of recommendation). I also rocked the socks off my Cross-Cultural Communication class and got an A on my first stats test (I just took t second one today).
My one complaint is a big one. There just aren't enough classes on mass media and there are no grad level courses that related to queer theory or it's application. These are my reason's for going to graduate school; I love doing research on this topic. And while i'm still able to research queer images on tv, I really thought a Masters degree here would provide mewith the building blocks to go and dive into a PhD. It's much harder to get the things out of this program that I need than i thought it would be. There is an internship with GLAAD (who i don't really like that much but sometimes you've got to work within the system...) that would be a perfect piece in the preparation puzzle (cuz alliteration rox!). i don't know if i will do it. It's only offered in the fall.
