"There was that one time, wasn't even a problem with the ship! Remember that, Zoe?" Jayne was pointing accusingly at Kaylee, who just grinned and blushed. Simon looked aghast.
"Oh yeah - I forgot how that started. Something in the kitchen overheat or somethin'?" Zoe laughed and looked to Kaylee for clarification.
Kaylee shook her head and giggled. "Nope. 'Nara was burnin' incense and one of the patches on my coveralls was hanging loose. It didn't fully catch until I got into the kitchen to start fixin' dinner! I've never seen you all move so fast. Zoe was on me with a blanket soon as she saw my hair light up. I didn't even know what happened until she let me up!" Kaylee was shaking her head as she laughed.
Simon looked horrified and moved to seat himself next to Kaylee at the table. "I'll have to see if I can't find an aloe plant the next time we get to a core planet. Maybe Inara would be able to find one?" The color was drained from his face, and Kaylee patted his cheek.
"Aww Simon, stop worryin'. The whole point of these stories is that I'm practically fireproof. No fancy plants necessary," she planted a kiss on his lips and smiled at his still raised eyebrows, and now dropped jaw.
"Perhaps I'll stock up on dressings as well," Simon ran off to make the changes to his inventory.
