Know what you mean. Classical conditioning can be seen in my life whenever I smell tar, you know like when someone is tarring a roof.
I was a roofer many moons ago and it was a bad time in my life. Plus it's a very dangerous job. Every time I smell tar I get a queasy feeling that I'm going to have to go back to working as a roofer! I hate the smell of tar!! Hate it!
Funny how conditioning affects the sensory as well. In your case, it's auditory, in my case sensory. Interesting. I think.

It is actually very clever of your body/mind to still be working on protecting you from harm. It seems like a negative response, but fear is not always a negative reaction, sometimes it saves our lives. I have experienced a lot of trauma in my life and know that it's not the EVENT that causes the fear, it's the lack of control during the event and our inability to process and accept that we did the best that we could under the circumstances. I've done a lot of reconditioning work with trauma and one tool that is very helpful, is to be grateful to the reaction. When you hear screeching tires, be grateful that your reaction is still working so hard to protect you, and take a moment to be glad that you are alive. It sounds weird, but in time the sound of screeching tires will make you feel alive and strong. Classic reconditioning I guess...

I also have a problem that is somewhat similar to yours. When I was about 15, my friends and I went to Las Vegas for the weekend to have some fun(although I couldn't really have fun because I wasn't able to gamble.) I remember on that Friday, one of my friends bought 4 bottle of Jose Guervo tequila. That night I ended up dring about 3/4 of the bottle to myself. That was a big mistake! From what my friends told me, I was literally throwing up on myself every couple of minutes the first night. I remember one of my friends telling me a couple of days later that he didn't even know where all the yack was coming from. I was out until monday the next week. I didn't even leave the hotel room the whole time I was in Vegas. After that, even the smell of Jose Guervo tequila(stimulus) got me sick and dizzy(response).
