natalie.mu The huge success of the second 'A Splendid Evening of Music' performance from GACKT and the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra.
GACKT and the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra performed a collavoration concert together called 'A Splendid Evening of Music' yesterday, December 26th, at the Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall in Tokyo.
The live was in continuation of the live that was performed last year. The performance was split into two halves. For the first half, the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra performed GACKT's songs conducted by Hirofumi Kurita. Songs peformed included the theme song from 'MOON SAGA-Yoshistune Hiden- Chapter Two', the play written, directed and scored by GACKT. Also, GACKT's debut solo single 'Mizerable' and his newest single 'Akatsukizukyo -DAY BREAKERS-' were performed.
For the second half, GACKT appeared on stage with the orchestra and performed five songs that are fan favorites, such as 'KAGERO', 'LOVE LETTER' and 'Sakura, Chiru...'. For the encore song '12 Gatsu no LOVE SONG', GACKT said “We were able to meet on this day and with thoughts of meeting again next year, I will sing this song”. With thunderous applause from the audience filling the hall, the concert ended.

I was able to go to the evening show and it truly was splendid. The Yoshitsune medley was well done and went through most of the main songs that were used during the pivotal scenes. It all flowed together brilliantly well. Mizerable took a few moments to place because the introduction was different, but it wasn't too different from the single version. Akatsukizukuyo was the same as the orchestra version on the single.
GHOST was amazing. As it started, the conductor had this grin of glee on his face so I knew it was going to be a wild song. It worked so well. The conductor was jumping around throughout, the piano player looked like he was pain as he was banging away at the keys and it was a real highlight of the show.
GACKT arrived on stage after the intro to KAGERO had began. He said that LAST SONG was an important song to him, and the arrangement was beautiful. A little faster than the piano version, but still very moving. CLAYMORE was awesome and GACKT asked us to compare it to the version played on tour last year. LOVE LETTER was the same as last year, and again another important song for him. He spoke about Yoshitsune Hiden and how the actors had come together as a proper unit during the course of the play before peforming Sakura, Chiru.
For 12 Gatsu no LOVE SONG, he spoke about how he had released it in different languages. He got a little mixed up and originally said that he released it in a different language every month before realising his error and said that would be too much hard work, hahahaha. I think 12 Gatsu was very similar to last year too.
He spoke throughout the show about how difficult it was to put the songs together and how nervous he was. Maybe it was because it was the second year, or because I went to the evening show instead of the matinee this time, but he didn't seem as nervous and unsure as last year. I can see why he would be nervous though as he's completely bare on stage, with no backing vocals or guide vocals or anything to help his performance or cover mistakes. It's just him and his voice.
And it's wonderful.
In non-Orchestra news, GACKT updated his blog and blomaga today.
