Disclaimer: Okay, here we go, I haven't watched any whole episodes of season 3 yet, (just know some stray details) so I may be a little off on characterization, but this is my little 'harsh truth' about Dean's deal. It hit me in form last night, but a couple of you know what I think should happen on the show, and the whole 'no loopholes' clause the CRD demon stipulated when Dean brought Sammy back. That being said, I do not own the boys or the show, these are just my crazy ideas.

Demonic Truths
Another flash of pain shot through her body, and she gritted her teeth, her head shooting back, trying to stifle the scream of pain that was on the verge of passing through her lips.

Once the waves of mind splitting pain were gone, she breathed a deep breath preparing for the next wave that was sure to come. When she peered up at her assailants her eyes were coal black and shiny, she didn't bother to change them back to the color of the human that she was occupying at the moment, because they had already trapped her, and there was no hiding what she really was anymore.

"You know," she snapped through gritted teeth "I would be more inclined to answer your questions if you stopped dosing me with holy water, it really fucking stings. Have you ever been splashed with battery acid that lights your skin on fire? Cause that's what it feels like."

She looked around at the rundown shack that the three of them had her trapped in, and said with a sneer, "Geez, what's with the backwoods Sammy? Not much to look at out here in the middle of nowhere."

Sam looked at her, his eyes cold "Oh, I'm sorry, maybe you would like the view better from hell? That is where you came from, and where I can send you back to. In fact..." he started to speak the exorcism ritual in Latin.

Dean laid a hand on the book Sam was reciting and stepped in front of him, "Not yet, we didn't get what we came for."

"Who knows if she can even tell us what we want to know." Sam said skeptically, his eyes still hard.

"She can," Ruby spoke from behind both boys, leaning back on a table a look of boredom running across her face, "and she will, give it time or... a wicked smile played across her lips, "another healthy dose of holy water to help loosen her tongue."

"BITCH!" the demon screamed, "You know what it feels like, how could you wish that on another demon?!"

"Well honey, I'm not exactly playing for your side at the moment. And you are being difficult, I mean, come on, we have been at this for a while, and do you really wanna go back to hell? Just tell them already, I'd do it myself, but I wasn't exactly in the loop on this one."

Sam raised the bottle of holy water ready to spray another assaulting jet at the demon, and Dean raised his eyebrows at her. "What's it gonna be?"

"Fine, but you're not going to like it."

Dean looked at her, his eyes narrowed, "We'll be the judge of that."

"You can't break the deal, the demon that holds it won't let you."

Both brothers rolled their eyes, they had heard that before, but they had also heard that they could, they were getting mixed messages right and left but they both assumed it was to throw them off the trail or frustrate them enough that they would stop looking for a solution that would keep them both alive and fighting together against the demon onslaught.

"Well, we have information," Dean jerked his head in Ruby's direction "that says otherwise.

"Then you're misinformed," Sam and Dean both looked at Ruby a little worry flashing in their eyes "all of the tricks she was gonna pull to get you out of the deal, won't work this time around."

Ruby stands up with her arms crossed over her chest and rolls her eyes, not even bothering to glance at the demon in front of them. "You see, the demon that holds the contract for your soul is more powerful than anything Ruby there, has ever dealt with.

"Demons lie," Ruby scoffed, still not looking at the demon, but focusing on Sam and Dean, "especially to protect themselves and get what they want."

"So, who's to say she's not lying?" the demon bit back, looking pointedly at Ruby "using you...a means to an end-"

Sam sprayed a jet of holy water at the demon hitting her square in the face with it. A scream cut loose from her throat and passed freely between her lips, she wasn't expecting this assault, but once the searing pain subsided again, she chuckled to herself, letting her head fall down to her chest.

"What are you laughing at bitch?" Dean narrowed his eyes, he never liked when they got all self righteous and cocky.

"You, and well, Sammy."

"It's Sam," said the younger Winchester, his voice even.

"You're pathetic family that's dwindled down to two, and soon it'll just be one." She gazed up at Sammy, and let out another laugh that dripped with disdain, shifting her gaze to Dean, "all you humans, so eager to give up your souls for one another, but you wouldn't if you knew. You are your soul, the body is just the flesh and bone packaging surrounding the big prize. You think you were just gonna give up your soul and fade away when you died, Dean? That's not what happens, you are going to feel every second of your time in hell, your soul without a body has no protection so the pain and agony will be worse than anything you have ever imagined or experienced before. It is going to be so heightened that every second you spend there is going to feel like an eternity, and it only gets worse with time."

"Look," Dean moved again toward the demon trying not to think about what she had just said, he had learned from experience that demons tried to push his buttons, at least he hoped that was what she was doing, "we can do this all day, hell, we can do this for a few days, why do you think we choose such an isolated place? It's one of the only remaining places that Samuel Colt protected to keep demons out as well as in."

The demon looked up suddenly, not just scared from the holy water shower it was receiving, but from the fact that Dean had a point, she hadn't felt any other demon activity since she had waken up here. She let out an exasperated sigh, and if it was true that they were as isolated as she thought, no demon would be able to pull her out of this body and send her back to hell if she told them what she knew, and just maybe she could cut a deal with these Winchester boys, or escape somehow.

"Alright," she raised her hands as much as the ropes binding her wrists would allow her to in a gesture of defeat and compliance "a girl knows when she's beat, what do you want to know?"

"Who is he?" Dean still didn't trust the demon, but if she was willing to talk, they could catch her slipping up, and that could be an advantage for them. "The demon that holds the contract for my soul, and how do you kill him.'

"Its not that simple and I'm not that high up on the totem pole. I have no clue who the demon is, we've never officially met" she sneered "I only know the reputation, and that reputation is magnanimous. No matter what you do, even with Ruby's help, you aren't gonna get close enough to kill the demon or free your soul, this demon doesn't make things as personal as ol' Yellow Eyes did, it won't come out of hell."

"Fine, he won't come out willingly, we'll find a way to draw him out, everyone has a weakness." Dean said, half trying to convince himself.

"Not this time, this demon is going all the way with this one. You're not gonna get out of this deal because Sammy is too valuable alive. This demon is willing to sacrifice everything to keep this contract, sound like anyone you know Dean?" She saw his jaw clench, and continued "You two are actually more alike than you'd care to realize, to bad you aren't fighting on the same side, you'd make quite a team."

"Stop running your mouth and get to the point- Spiritus imundus-" Sam started.

"Alright! Can't a demon make an innocent observation?" She glared at Sam who returned her scathing gaze "Geez, you're no fun, you wanna know the truth, no holding back? Fine, even if the Almighty himself came down and tried to intervene, it wouldn't make a damn bit of difference."

Her black eyes turned on Dean, "You were an adult, and you agreed to a binding contract, it's not our fault if you didn't think it through. And even the big guy upstairs wanted to, he can't break the kind of contract you made, it's that whole 'free will' thing he loves so much. He can't intervene in matters such as this, not his style really, he is more of the 'sit back and see if the humans can find their way out of this mess' type of deity. In making that deal, you just as sure damned your brother as if you left him a rotting corpse, the plan was never to have Sammy end up dead. The Demon does want you though, Dean, sees the big picture."

Sam stepped forward "What big picture?" His eyes cold, she turned her gaze back to Dean, perhaps it had already started. "Yellow eyes was a genius really, for putting this all in motion, but he was wrong about one thing.

"What?" they said in unison, Ruby still in the back, except now she was glaring at the demon they had caught.

"Your family does need you Dean more than you know, well, your remaining family anyway. What do you think," she nodded her head towards Sam "he's going to do when your gone, hell, before you die, can't you see it happening already? Even I can, the things that he is going to do to try to get you out of this deal are gonna be the beginning, the starting pistol."

"It is going to bring him too close to our side, and that sweet innocent little boy that you protected for all those years is going to be a distant memory, you're not even going to be able to recognize that in him when he's done trying to break your contract."

"He's not going to do it on his own, not anymore." Dean said defiantly.

"Details" she scoffed, more sure of herself now, "it doesn't matter, because when the years up, he's still alone. And he'll be ready as ever to join us."

"Not if I have anything to do with it" Ruby replied deadpan.

"Oh, you'll get yours Ruby, there are a lot of demons gunning for you. You pissed off the wrong side, honey." The demon said curling her mouth in a smirk.

"Get back to it, why makes you think I will ever join your side?" Sam said, darkness shading his words.

"Because," she turned her attention back to Sam "after Dean here has made his way down into the pit, that'll give you just enough time to mull over all the heinous things you two have done in this year trying to set Dean free, and you will be one step closer to leading our ranks."

She saw Dean shift his footing out of the corner of her eye, and knew she was piercing the armor, so she focused back on him, cocking her head and sighing "You may have prolonged the inevitable by stalling it for a year, but you can't change fate. He's gonna turn, there's no doubt about that. Making that deal all but sealed his fate along with your own. If you would have stuck around, he could have had a chance, but your gonna die. Don't you get it? When your year is up, you'll be dead, your soul roasting for eternity in the darkest corners of hell, but Sammy he'll be fine, we’ll make sure to take real good care of him.

"You won't get him. Even if I do die, he won't let my death mean so little." Dean cast a sideways glance at Sammy hoping for a reassuring look, but all he saw was his brothers profile, looking at the demon.

"You underestimate our sway, and you only have yourself to blame. He will have no family left. Mommy lost her life and her afterlife protecting Sammy and Daddy gave up his soul for you, and you gave up your soul for Sammy in true Winchester fashion. There is just one minor flaw in your plan, without you or his father or mother, without Jess or any family at all it won't be long before he gives in to our side, his true nature, the darker side of him that has been lurking in the shadows waiting for a time when it can embrace Sam. He will be broken and torn, incomplete and vulnerable, and because of his 'gifts' it will all be heightened, and he'll be isolated from the 'normal' people he would want to associate with, and he will turn to rage. See when Jake killed Sammy the first time around, he went where he was supposed to, little sweet Sammy up in heaven, saved."

Dean's eyes got wide, and she knew that she hit a nerve, when she looked over at Sam, he seemed lost in thought. If making Dean feel guilty meant that his guard went down a little, she may be able to get free so she continued, "But this time around, heaven won't take him when he's done, the devastation of losing his entire family is going to turn him into something completely different, something better to lead our side with, something-"

A shot exploded against the small interior of the makeshift cabin, and the demon convulsed sparks firing, and then there was nothing, her head fell forward and her body slumped down in the chair, awkwardly held up by the ropes that bound her.

Dean and Sam wheeled around, and saw Ruby holding the still smoking colt, they both glared at her.

"What?!" She said skeptically "Weren't you tired of hearing that crap?! She was talking in circles to bide enough time to get loose and kill you both. Really, I thought you two were smarter than that."

"But what she said..." Sam started slowly.

"Lies, twisted with the truth, because honestly she did get the whole 'you need your brother to stay good' thing right, but fate? I know from experience that fate is unfixed. Another of those 'free will' perks you humans have. And I can help you change your so called fate," she looked over to Dean too "both of them. I do have a few tricks up my sleeve she didn't know about. A few aces in the hole."

Dean and Sam looked at one another. If the demon was right, about the contract and about Sam, the rest of the year may not be enough time.
