pictures and stories

so, as i drove home yesterday after watching a movie, i started thinking about my dad. i think of my dad quite often, which is an incredibly positive thing. my dad is my hero. he finally finished chemo and radiation last week, and so he is now fully on the road to recovery (we hope). i realized that i should have a picture of him up on here. so when i arrived home, i opened up photoshop and started looking for a picture to put up. my most recent picture of him is from my graduation. i was first going to crop him out and simply post a picture of him, but i then decided such a plan lacked sense. i stand, in this picture, proudly with my mom, sister, dad and grandmother. my step dad was also at my graduation, but is not in the shot. my step mom, unfortunately, was unable to attend. here is the picture:

as i said, my dad seriously rocks. my whole family rocks, but, through this cancer horror, my appreciation of the strength of my own father has deepened fully.

after picking out this picture (and cropping it a bit and saving it in a lower quality/quicker loading format), i thought of a couple of other pictures to put up as well.

this is eva:

for the second half of my belize trip, i was attached to this woman. this was a crazy experience, as, like i noted before, we'd previously not met. i may head out to visit her in the city of portland, oregon, late this summer (immediately before heading to cornell), but that seems unlikely at this point. having a place to stay while finally visiting the pacific northwest would help quite a bit, and checking out that wonderful city also interests me a lot, plus, well, eva is an interesting character. we'll see how that all works out.

i have one last picture here. for all of you that do not live in the sticks, i have proof that the long-fabled tractor pull truly exists. what, one might ask (one that is not from navarino, of course), is a tractor pull? well, pulling, as defined by the great lakes tractor pull association, is "The simplest answer to that question is to say it is the classic contest between an immovable object (the weight transfer machine) and an irresistible force (the tractor). Basically, the truck/tractor (vehicle) attempts to pull a weighted sled a set distance. in the thriving metropolis of navarino, we have two antique tractor pulls or so a year; tractor pulls take place at the navarino volunteer fire department, where a nice tractor pulling facility was installed a few years ago. this is an actual scene from the memorial day weekend pull:

as you can see, the puller pulled a wheelie; wheelies often happen right before the tractor stops moving. at this point, the weight of the sled sits at the front end of the sled, immediately behind the rear wheels of the tractor. if you are still interested in this topic, check out the the national tractor pullers association.

that's it for now, i may discuss the news in a later post, check back in if that excites you.
