BOOK REVIEW
THE IRON QUEEN - JULIE KAGAWA
BOOK RATING : 5/5!
And the tale continues in book three. Now Meghan has to defeat the false king with Ash and Puck at her side and even more iron fey helping her tear down the enemy. I enjoyed this book even more than the others because there was so much epic romance and adventure. The whole entire story I was hooked like a worm on a fishing line. Every chapter had me reeled in further. Every twist had another twist followed by another twist. There was no end to the twists! I thought all hope was lost for Meghan in the end, but then she revived and became Queen. I expected it to happen but I thought when she was dead that the power would leave her and she would just die. Instead she became one with her realm. It was a wonderful end to this book.
What tore me apart was that Ash and Meghan seem to always have this forbidden love thing going on. They conquered it in the end of the last book but now there's a new thing keeping them apart...Meghan being Queen of the Iron realm, a realm that is poisonous to Ash as a winter faery. There's just so much that these two still have to go through to be together and I'm glad the book ended in Ash's perspective so we were able to see Ash seeking to find a way to be with her forever. Hopefully there won't be an ironic twist making her grey and old when he finally finds a way.
I was actually quite amused with the fact that it took so long for Meghan to realize that her being able to understand and control the gremlins would be the ultimate weapon in defeating the false king. Ever since Razor appeared I was waiting for her to figure it out but it took Grimalkin having to enlighten her to realize it and it took about four chapters for him to appear to let her know how ridiculously clueless she really was.
The battle itself was so epic. It was everything I've loved about fantasy books. To imagine dragons fighting giant metal bugs and spindly creatures gnawing away at a floating fortress...I believe I have entered one of the best epic fantasy fights since Narnia! And to see Meghan finally standing up for herself and becoming this passionate warrior, I couldn't have been more proud!
As for Meghan's family, it was interesting to see Paul on his journey back to sanity. I'm glad that even though Ash can't follow Meghan into the Iron realm, atleast her dad can be there for her. Oh and the dog that she thought she had lost. Good old Beau. I was so sad when I heard that he was going to get put down for a misunderstanding so I was very relieved to see he had been saved. It was either Ash or Puck that saved him but I'm not so sure it was Ash because he hardly knew Meghan at the time that happened. It was probably Puck, but who knows.
I'm very excited to read the new book, The Iron Knight, which is going to be in Ash's perspective. I would love to know what goes on in his mind so this is gonna be a real treat. Plus Puck is going to be following him on this crazy journey of his so it's a double treat. I love both of them. I almost wish I was a character in the story so Puck would fall in love with me. I'm a sucker for the comedians. I mean, seriously...turning a guy's head into a donkey? That's hilarious! I've always loved that crazy faery from Midsummer's Nights Dream. He always knows how to make me laugh no matter what story he's in!
If you're reading this review, and I hope you are cause I love it when people are actually interested in my opinion, I strongly encourage you to read this series! It's funny, romantic, full of twists and turns and it is FANTASTICAL!!! I'm not sure if that's a word but I'm using it anyway.
