BOOK REVIEW
CITY OF GLASS - CASSANDRA CLARE

Book Rating : 5/5

JACE ISN'T CLARY'S BROTHER!!! Oh my god the one thing that had  tortured me ever since the end of the first book, is gone now. No more worries! As it turns out Jace is a Herondale, not a Morgenstern and not only that but he has Angel Blood just like Clary which makes them both VERY powerful. I really wonder what their children will end up like if it ever comes to that cause I'm sure this isn't the last one...there are still quite a few things left untouched despite the fact that the ending was sugary sweet. They never found the real Jonothan's body so I'm sure he'll be the next nemsis now that Valentine is dead. And I just have to say that that was a very fitting death being killed by the Angel Raziel who he had hoped would be the main instrument in his new crazy pure shadow world. Ironic Justice. LOVIN IT!

Of course the moment the character of Sebastian was first introduced I knew something was off because he seemed too involved in what everyone was doing....and too involved in what Clary was doing especially. I never knew that he was the true Jonathan though...that thought had never occured to me. I had hoped during Jocelyn's speech that she might tell her that Jace wasn't really her brother and that Jonathan was but I thought maybe I was just fooling myself into thinking that was the case because that's what I wanted...but as it happens, it was true!

Now that I've mentioned Jonathan I have to say, he is way creepier than his father Valentine ever will be. Valentine, despite his crazy fascist belief system, was atleast human in both body and soul. It's what made him vulnerable too. Jonathan, on the other hand, was so incredibly evil that it gave me the shivers even when you were supposed to think he was just Sebastian. The demon part of him just had a way of coming out through the page, despite all the measures him and Valentine had taken to make him blend in, and I definitely felt the coldness in his words. Like Jace had said, Sebastian is too good that it seemed unnatural. It was unnatural because he was faking the whole thing. It was so obvious I felt like screaming at Clary for almost revealing everything to him.

Ooh and the subject I most want to talk about is the fact that Jocelyn finally wakes up! I knew Magnus hadn't betrayed Clary after she gave him the Book of the White, even though she thought he had. I knew without a doubt he'd gone off to Jocelyn to wake her up. Clary though couldn't see why he had just left. It doesn't really take an expert...Jocelyn wasn't in Idris. She was in New York. Of course he had to leave immediately to get to her. Silly Silly Clary. I have to admit that their renuion wasn't quite what I had imagined. I'd expected her to run into her mother's arms and say " I missed you I missed you I missed you" but instead the first things out of her mouth were angry accusations that she spout out because she was upset her mother had lied to her all her life. True, I would've been upset...but after seeing my mom in a coma for three weeks thinking there was no way to fix her..I certainly wouldn't be yelling at her the minute she's awake. That just seems cruel.

I am extremely proud of Alec in this book. He finally squashed down all his fears of whether or not people would accept him for who he really is and just revealed all of himself by kissing Magnus in front of his parents and the rest of the Clave and Downworlders. I was cheering so hard while I read that. It was seriously about time.

One thing that totally tore me open was the image of Ithuriel being imprisoned to the point where he lost all his brilliance. I remembered Ithuriel from The Clockwork series and my heart just bled for him. I felt so horrified that I wanted to reach into the pages and kill Valentine myself somehow. Of course, Raziel being the one that did it made it much cooler because he was Ithuriel's brother.. And I love how Raziel puts Valentine in his place by saying that he has no right to speak of himself as having glory when God is the only one that is glorious. Also, how he explains to Valentine that downworlders have souls and asking to rid the world of them would be like asking to rid the world of mundanes as well. And then all went to hell for Valentine right then as he realized that Clary had changed the rune to her name instead of his and he could no longer compel the angel to grant his wish.

Clary and her runes definitely saved the day. Not only had she changed the rune into her name so that she would get the wish instead of Valentine, but she had also created the alliance rune for both Shadowhunterts and Downworlders to unite them together so that they would fight with each other's strengths and powers and also make them linked with that person as well. The whole situation made the Shadowhunters think of the Downworlders as one of them finally and I look forward to see them fighting side by side all over again with their newfound respect for one another.

Then there's Simo, who now has that Mark of Cain branded on his forehead thanks to Clary. I'm sure there is defintiely gonna be a big side effect in the books to come...but it did save his life for which I am extremely greatful. The series would be nothing without Simon the Vampire. I liked him as a Mundane but he is so much cooler as a vampire because of not only his strength, but his new confidence and charisma. I'd totally be all over him just like Maia and Isabelle are throughout the books.

If you like books that take you into completely different worlds I definitely reccomend The Mortal Instruments because the shadow world is SO incredible. I love every second of what I read and I believe everyone, even older adults would love this book as well despite it is a teen book. To me, it just feels so much more mature than a Young Adult series. There is great tragedy as well as great joy and adventure. It will keep you hooked, I promise!
