BOOK REVIEW
CLOCKWORK PRINCE - CASSADRA CLARE
This book well deserves a 5 out of 5 stars.
I'm so excited I got to finally read this book. This series is so brilliant and wonderful that I have to reccomend it to anoyone who will listen. The Infernal Devices Series by Cassandra Clare is full of magic and adventure and is a blast from beginning to end. The book I just read is second in the series. The first is Clockwork Angel, which I have already reviewed. The third is Clockwork Princess, which I have yet to read. Clockwork Prince picks up the story right after Will seeks Magnus for help for something personal. His whole bad attitude is finally explained and sadly, the book ends with him broken-hearted. For years he pushed everyone away because of a curse that had just ended up being a fib. When he finally tries to tell Tessa that, she's already engaged to Jem. And even though it's killing him inside, Will would never do anything to hurt Jem
Though I prefer Will with Tessa...Jem does have this wonderful charm that I can't help being drawn to. It's really tragic, his situation, and I still hope they'll find a cure for him. He and Will have a huge misunderstanding when Will goes to a drug den to get away from his problems and inadvertantly hits Jem where it hurts considering Jem is dying from a drug that he cannot find a cure for and Will was seeming to make harmless play of it. They made up of course, because Jem and Will could never hate each other for too long because they're parabatai.- bonded brothers.
What really warmed my heart this time was Henry and Charlotte. They finally talked out the reasons they had married each other and realized they had both been blind thinking the other had married them for money or duty instead of love. In reality, they're both crazy for each other and it took them years to see the truth of it! I'm just so happy that they're gonna have a baby now too! It was a perfect end of the story shock for them!
I enjoyed the humor that was throughout the book. Though I have to say the funniest part for me was when Magnus tried to make Camille jealous by pretending Will was his lover, even though it's obvious at one point they were even if Will doesn't remember it. It was hilarious because Magnus woke Will up to kiss him in front of Camille and Will kept trying to bat him away like he would a bee, but Camille didn't notice that what he did was because he didn't want to be kissed. She thought it was all a part of his fiery passion. Then the awkward moment afterwards was so amusing. When Magnus meets Will outside to say goodbye Will asks him if he just kissed him, because he's still sort of loopy from the pain-killing spells. Magnus however, lies and says that they did nothing of the sort and that pain-killing spells can make you think the craziest things happen, and Will just believes him and leaves. I was rolling on the floor laughing so hard.
I can't say I was upset at all when Nate died. He deserved it, even if he was Tessa's brother. He was a sociopath who killed his own mother because she kept their relation to each other a secret. Plus all the things he did to Tessa, all the things he said to her, were not brotherly at all. He retained some humanity right before he died, but it wasn't enough to make me feel sorry for him, even if Tessa did a little bit. Although I do sympathize with her, losing a relative is not easy. Still, I'm happy he got what he deserved!
I have to say the person that surprised me the most in this book was Gideon Lightwood. I thought for sure that he must be some spy for his father but as it turns out he really does love Sophie and in the end chose her over his father and in essence, good over evil. I still think he would have chosen good anyway after all his father had done. The demon pox cover up was too big of a betrayal. Especially since it involved the death of their mother.
It seems Mortmain has still yet to be captured. Like some of the characters stated, he spins a complex web and so far they've only been able to grasp at individual strands that aren't directly pointed to the epicenter. I do hope they get moving quickly though considering the information they found out about just how large his Clockwork army is makes it obvious that they have to build an army of their own. Although now there's the added bonus of extra help because even though Jessamine betrayed the Institute to Nate and Mortmain, Will's sister Cecily shows up at the institute at the end of the book requesting to be trained as a shadowhunter. Now I really can't wait for the next book because Cecily ought to be much more determined and serious about being a shadowhunter than Jessamine had.
I give Clockwork Prince 5 gold stars and reccomend it to those with a hankering for fantasy and adventure. The storyline and inner world of The Infernal Devices series is ingenious and captivates me with every word and every sentence and every chapter! I can't describe just how much I love this series and I believe others will too.
