A practice entry to make sure I haven't forgotten how to write and post.
For the past two weeks I've been back in the mountains teaching at the lapidary school. Again my life has some regularity and I like it. Perhaps because I know this won't last long. My classes have been rewarding and for the most part my students have produced good work and have seemed to enjoyed themselves.
Last week was my tool making class in which we made a group of tools for jewelry making and studied the properties of tool steel and brass. About 9 one night fierce tornadoes were in the area and everyone gathered in the lower hall of the main building to ride out the storm in safety. A large tornado touched down about a half mile away from here but we remained unscathed.
Seeing everyone in the downstairs hallway reminded me of photos I'd seen of the London underground during the blitzkrieg.
In this school if you teach two weeks you get a week free, so I singed up for a stone cutting class next week. I'll have been here 3 weeks and am kind of anxious to get home but this is a rare opportunity to use their equipment and have a week of relaxation were I can focus on work in a sort of meditative way yet still produce a collection of stones for use in my jewelry.
