Well, I went to the grand opening of the Rockcastle Speedway last night. I'm sure no one cares about this, but I'm going to ramble on about it anyway. You see Rockcastle Speedway is in Mt. Vernon. At one time, in the 70's to be precise, it was a dirt track. Well someone, forgetting that the track went bankrupt the first time around for a very good reason, decided to build an asphalt track on the old location. There in lies the problem. The location, in a word, sucks.
The track's situated back on a road named Cove Branch Road...the road is ultra curvy and quite difficult to get a truck and hauler containing a racecar through. Additionally it sucks for the fans because once they arrive at the track, having made the eye opening journey through the hills of Rural Mount Vernon, they have to park in a grass parking lot situated on land which is something less than level. Then the fans, including 70 something year olds fresh out of the VFW have to embark on a journey up a very steep gravel hill to get to the ticket gate. It's just horribly planned. I think it's another instance of people who wanted to build a track and loved racing, but knew absolutely nothing about business. In fact, they tried to run the track a few years ago as I-75 Speedway and found it unprofitable. Apparently someone didn't listen, bought the track, and tried again.
That being said, the track itself is very good. It's well designed, and relatively quick with latemodels averaging somewhere around 90mph on the 3/8 mile surface. The turns are good and wide, and multiple groove racing is possible due to progressive banking, which makes the bank on the high side of the track more steep allowing drivers to keep up while taking the long way around. The problem Friday was that the car counts were horrendus. Only two 'slammer' cars showed up, one pure street, six chevettes, and nine latemodels. It was super disappointing.
Anyway, as far as everything else goes; I'm supposed to hang out with my friend Alisha and her friend Amie today, and I'm going to attempt to drag Micahel along with me if I can contact him within a reasonable time frame. Additionally, Michael and I really need to record Confusticated. I would really like to start taking the music thing seriously. The only problem with that is that I don't have money to get equipment and won't for a while. I can't get a job right now for some legal reasons as well as being injured, and some money that was supposed to be coming to me hasn't arrived.
Also I've got to go and retrieve my briefcase from my friend Christina, as I've got a lot of stuff in there that I really do need. I'm falling behind...grah, I hate a lack of transportation and more importantly motivation and energy. I never feel like doing anything anymore except for wasting time away on here and writing pseudo intellectual pieces that will never see the light of day. It's a grand existence. Hopefully my mood will change soon.
