Welly well well well. It appears the Schiavo report has finally been filed by the Pinellas-Pasco Medical Examiner. Despite what the Schindlers and half of bloody congress said, it turns out the physicians were correct all along. Imagine that! Physicians knew more about the woman's medical condition than politicians hiding behind cheap theatrics and a platform of theocratic hysteria! Surely you jest.
As Michael Schiavo contended, Terri was in a persistent vegetative state. Did the report say that? No. But it didn't have to. You see, Terri's brain was half of the size it should have been and it had gotten to the point that her vision centers had atrophied and she was undoubtedly blind. With such extensive brain damage, it's difficult to imagine any sort of consciousness in the poor woman. When it came down to it, she had no chance of recovery without a sort of miracle ocurring.
That brings me to my next point. A lot of the people who were against Terri's feeding tube being removed fell into one of the three categories. Conservatives, Christians, or Conservative Christians with the vast majority falling into the latter. Thankfully some Conservative Christians (such as my LJ friend Mel) saw through all the crap and political nonsense and came to the logical conclusion that the feeding tube should be removed as Michael wished and as Terri probably would have wished. However, some pepole didn't get it. They felt that if God wanted Terri to die, then she would have died anyway. The same people, however, apparently had no faith. If GOD wanted Terri to live, then she would have been healed with or without the bloody feeding tube. The almighty, creator of mankind and balancing force of the universe doesn't need a damned feeding tube or anything else to have his will be done if it is as powerful as these people contended. Whackjobs.
Anyway, the conservatives *shiver* who were against the removal were equally surprising and illogical. The conservatives, champions of state's rights for decades and defenders of the SANCTITY OF MARRAIGE tried to interfere on a FEDERAL LEVEL. The hypocrisy makes me so angry that I can't see straight. To say, on the one hand, that the gravity and significance of marraige must be protected and, on the other, to take the decision of a wife's future out of the hands of the husband and put it into the hand of the parents is entirely contradictory. They, as usual, seem to like certain aspects of their nearly dogmatic political platform only when it coincides with the evangelical Christian point of view.
The melding of religion and politics is a horrible thing. Not only does it open the door for theocratic leadership, but it also hurts the church. The church is supposed to be a seperate entity from the material world. It's difficult to think of a more material being than the growing monster we call the U.S. Federal Government. God should be left out of government, and more importantly government should be left out of God and the worship there of.
But anyway, during this fight the Schindlers levelled all sorts of allegations at Mr. Schiavo. They contended that he abused her, broke her bones, and attempted to strangle her. As the report noted, none of this was substantiated. In reality these 'parents' were not around for eight years, and only showed interest when Michael was going to remove the feeding tube. I followed the story closely while in Tampa, since Pinellas Park is only 20 miles or so away. These people, instead of being championed as defenders of the 'culture of life' (which is complete bunk anyway considering the tens of thousands dead in Iraq) should be sued for slander and the reporters that spewed this nonsense and fueled speculation about Mr. Schaivo for libel.
To top it all, the Schindlers now say they will review the report with their own medical experts (gee, I wonder what they'll conclude seeing as how they will be on the Schindlers' payroll) and plan to proceed with unspecified legal action. My God, these people need to be slapped in the face and instructed to promptly cease and desist. This junk can only happen in two states, California and Florida.
Which brings me to the next thing I want to rant about. Michael Jackson was found not guilty. And you know what? I couldn't care less. A lot of people are saying that his aquital was due to his wealth or his legacy (of a psychopathic known pedophile I suppose). However, these people are complete morons. As are prosecuting attorneys in California. The latter is why he and Robert Blake were acquitted. No one in California seems to be able to present a case that extinguishes reasonable doubt. The jury, with the evidence presented, reached the only verdict that they could. Fox News as well as the screaming throngs everywhere can take that factoid and go to hell. I'm tired of hearing all this crap about this poor kid and his mother. If you don't know that Michael Jackson's got his hand inside little boys pants by now, you must be a monk..and they don't have kids. Anyone irresponsible enough to let their child sleep over at a suspected pedophile's house on multiple occasions is either a moron who should fall subject to Darwinism at any some point in the near future anyway, or is pimping out their child in hopes of receiving gifts or pursuing legal action and should be prosecuted. Case frigging closed.
I need a nap.
