Richmond doesn’t get much snow. I spent the first 19 years of my life here, and in that time we got exactly two real snowstorms, one in the late Seventies and one in the winter of 1986-7. I’m pretty broke. Broke enough that I can’t afford food and have, for the first time in my life, had to resort to food stamps. Even now that I have a job, I am paid so little that the food stamps continue coming, though so far I’ve kept the rent paid, and not all of the bills are past due ( Read more... )

These were taken at about one o'clock in the afternoon. The reason it looks like they were taken at dusk is that the snow was pouring out of the sky as if King Kong was standing on our roof dumping out a ten-ton box of soap flakes.

I love the snow.  I hate the cold, of course; hate it more than anyone else I know.  I spend winter in a kind of constant rage because 1) being cold pisses me off and 2) there isn't really anyone I can yell at about it, so there's no place for the anger to go.  Winter is long slow boil time for me.
