Will be updated with pictures: I don't have my USB cable with me at the moment.
Ah, long weekend. I’ve been absent a few days. Forgive me.
Amy and I went to Charleston this weekend for a bonfire and a general meetin’-folks kinda thing. This turned out to be a little bit troublesome, since my truck inexplicably decided not to start, but we took Amy's car and she let me drive, which was cool. She has cruise control! I love cruise control! And her car is far more comfortable than my truck, also.
The bonfire was excellent. It was hosted (hostessed?) by Courtney, late of the Calamity folk, who was lovely and charming and who will, starting today, have her own tag on this journal.
We burned mostly beer boxes, but her friend Mickey found an old railroad tie and dragged it up a steep hill from the river (resourceful, she was), and it provided a solid base for the fire that kept it burning all night. Also, we burned an old chair. That was fascinating, watching it gradually disappear into the flames. My long-time readers will know that I have serious fascination-with-fire issues which have frequently caused me grief, but Saturday night went pretty smoothly on the fire front.
Not so smoothly on the alcohol front, where I drank FAR more than was necessary and so much for cutting down. It’s just one night, though, and as far as I know I didn’t create any disturbances or make a complete ass of myself (a partial ass, perhaps…) so I’m not beating myself up over it too badly. What I AM beating myself up over is the CDs I made for Courtney and for her friend Blair, who made my lovely hat. I worked hard on those damned things, and then left them at my apartment. I’m too absent-minded to live.
I was last to bed, which is hardly unusual for me, and also first to rise. I don’t have any idea what time I fell asleep, but I was up at noon, approx., so I didn’t get as much sleep as I might have liked; but I had a cold beer as a hangover remedy, and jammed some Gotan Project and enjoyed The God Delusion by myself for a while. A couple of hours later Amy struggled to consciousness, followed a little later by Courtney, who wasn't feeling good. The three of us vegged on the porch for a while (she has a nice porch, with the WV hills all ‘round it) and ate some Tudor’s, and then Amy and I headed back to town.
By the time we got here, though it was still afternoon, we were both pretty much dead. Amy went home and I curled up on the couch and fell asleep, and would have slept straight through the night, only Mrs. P called me and woke me at around 3:00, which of course she’s allowed to do; speaking to her is always a pleasure. I got up, had some soup, watched
Frankenstein and
Bride of Frankenstein, and went back to sleep at about six.
And then yesterday at Mama’s, I did my laundry, grilled some hotdogs, napped again, and introduced the family to Arrested Development (which offended my uptight cousin Mary, and I don’t care). No internet. This is the first time I’ve been awake in the presence of the internet since Friday evening. So, what did I miss? Any news? Anything interesting going on?
POSTSCRIPT: Still no word about Jimbo, for those waiting to hear. And yes, although this post doesn't sound like it, I really have been trying to get information.
