Some things I typically want for my birthday, and so rarely get.
Home-made cinnamon buns.
Someone to wake up, spend the day with, and go to bed with.
A hug and a kiss (for real, not just XOXO)
To give a massage
A chance to shoot a nude model
Beef stroganoff
To feel appreciated and loved
Any thoughtful gift that shows someone was paying attention
Most material stuff, like comics, books, DVDs, etc. I manage to find and buy for myself. The things I value are the things I can't just buy, I suppose.
Rough day and night, so far. I'm feeling a lot of emotion and loss surrounding my Mom and Dad and missing them alot. Ended up napping for part of the day and having lots of bad dreams about breaking up with all the women I know, then realizing that without them, I have nearly no one. Disquieting.
Watching the Harry Potter films... and realizing how bloody long the first two films feel. At the same time, I'm appreciating the high number of practical, rather than CGI, effects in the films. As the later films moved to more and more green screen work, I think the reality of the worlds disappeared. What saves the later films is not the spectacle, but the ability of the new directors to bring more focus on the story and characters.
Also watching Highlander: The Series... old school syndicated TV, that's for sure. I kind of miss the days of stuff like Xena, Hercules, and Highlander. The stories are mostly archetypes, the budget is low, and the acting occasionally very hammy... but there's an honest charm to the production.
Packed all my minis for the battle tomorrow, but since it's supposed to snow up island, I'm not sure Joel will be able to make it down.
