So I thought I'd take a few minutes and pause for an update of the latest happenings:
-On Saturday, January 13th, Time Warner FINALLY came and CORRECTLY installed my cable internet and TV. I am now enjoying incredibly fast internet speeds and lots of Lakers home games. I am spoiled once again.
-Work the last month or so has been really good. Each day I'm becoming more and more useful and I'm finally grasping where I belong in the hierarchy of the company. Believe it or not, I'm actually the "boss" of guys older than your fathers. It took a while to get used to, but now I'm just breaking the ice of what is to become a power trip. Again, I am quite spoiled. What's even more dis/encouraging is how laid back this job is. Absolutely no stress or pressure. If I don't get my shit done today, hell, I'll finish it tomorrow...after I eat some cake some coworker brought. Basically The Gas Company is spoiling my ass rotten and is setting me up for failure if I ever move outside the company. It's really no wonder anymore that a lot of these old timers have been with SoCalGas 25+ years.
-Currently I am involved with the UCLA dragon boat's IM sports basketball team. I practiced with them a few times during their fall quarter and winter break on the weekends. Basically my role is an assistant coach, or as my friend likes to put it, the "Godfather" of the team. Basically I work all the behind the scenes, finding the strengths and weaknesses of each individual and discussing various matters with my friend George, the coach. In the beginning I was really anxious to play, which I actually did in the team's first regular season game (we won 38 to 6). But I've quickly found myself in a role on the sideline as a coach, something I'm starting to enjoy, and a perfect segue to...
-I've just been offered an assistant coaching position with my old basketball coach from way back when (I played league ball from 3rd grade to 8th grade with the same team). The team is part of a Japanese Orange County league consisting of high school seniors. I have a coaches' seminar to attend at the end of February and the league officially begins in March. Coaching is something I actually consider doing later on in my life, so this is the perfect opportunity to begin honing my skills and charisma as a strong basketball coach.
-A few weeks ago I bought a 20" LCD HD TV for my room so that I can watch TV and use my computer off the same screen. I bought an HD TV because I'm preparing to buy a new game system. I will be purchasing either an Xbox 360 or PS3 to take full advantage of high-definition game play. I'm waiting for better games to come out on either system to make my decision.
-Just yesterday I bought a new phone, the Cingular 8525. It's a (pricey) PDA/cellular phone that I've been eyeing for some time. It's perfect for me because of it's Microsoft Outlook functionality and syncing and the QWERTY keyboard that makes inputting text for messages and notes super easy. I'm amazed at how truly versatile and efficient this phone is. A worthy (expensive) investment.
-Norby is coming home this Saturday (for a week I assume) and Eric and Owen return the following weekend for the short holiday. Snowboarding seems like a good idea, no?
-Nobody sent me their BLAB pictures and it actually pisses me off. I really want those.
