Babylon 5, season 1, episode 3, "Born to the Purple"

Jan 14, 2013 13:33

It's my day off...what to do with all that time.  After having exhausted my Tina Fey & Amy Poehler are awesome searches, and accidentally shutting off "The Office", I decided it was time for some B5.

Let's see what's in store, shall we?

Judging from the DVD menu page, it looks like we're going to get some G'Kar action.

...or not.  There's action, some scanitly clad women and a very chipper looking Londo.

Cock block--Sinclear and G'Kar!

...already love the G'Kar/Londo love..."you can kiss my soft ....awww, yes"  Now there's some bald chick dancing around.  Let's drink to the broads, thinks Londo.

And speaking of cock block, here comes G'Kar's new diplomatic boss.  She doesn't look very cheery. Random blond dude just felt her wrath...

Londo: You know sometimes, I almost feel sorry for G'Kar.

And, fade to amber as Londo closes the door to his quarters after finding bald chick in his very Pier 1 bed.

Don't you sometimes think that Sinclair feels like he's the head of the asylum?  Londo, G'Kar, the dude with the Game Boy...

Talia's got a headache. Being an empath must be a bitch!

I do not believe that this bald chick is good.  Reminds me of Shae..."My lion of Lannister..."

"Washed up old Republican"--is he John McCain? Ha!

"What do you want, you moon faced assassin of joy?"  I really do see him as the Rygel of B5; at least as far as some of the best lines go.

Ivanova!  "Then thankfully there's no further need for us to chat."  Girl just gets to the point.

LOL @ the shared Game Boy.  I guess Londo's charm didn't work on the spotted one...

Drakus!  Trakus?! Anyway.  Ah-ha! I knew I couldn't trust this chick.  That dude looks like Senator Palpatine's brother.  This guy has a great voice, and quite a tale to tell.

The mind probe...that does NOT look good.  Probe and sci fi...generally not a good thing.

Poor Londo--this can only end in tears...I swear, that really does look like Pier 1 bedding!

So Londo gets date rape-drugged and now he's getting a non sexual probe.  I guess it could be worse.  This is what happens when you do your thinking with the little head, and not the big one; then again, to paraphrase John Crichton, he's not the first guy to get his head snapped off by a girl.  At least this chick looks guilt ridden, and now she leaves his gift on the table.

*sad face*

"My brain feels like it's been sucked out through my ears!"  It kind of has.

The long haired guy is really creepy looking!  And, as James Bond might say:  "Shocking."

Interesting that the Centauris have slaves; you'd think they'd have a more advanced society.

I really like G'Kar!  He does indignity so well.  And now I see that the lady Narn is not really his boss.  Maybe she can go out with Vir...

Sinclair's growing on me, especially in this episode with all the crazy.  I like the Jedi capes here in the club.

Love the club bouncer, and the club boss.  The boss reminds me of Lorne from Angel.  And Sinclair has an awesome laugh!  Also, Ok, the dancing girls remind me of Kirk's space ladies.

Fly guy!  Man, there's a lot of spy vs spy stuff here.  Where is the empath when you need her?

Assassins in awesome coats and futuro sunglasses!  Well, one guy anyway. The other looks like Kramer's pig man (see Seinfeld)

Ivanova sure likes to chomp on Garibaldi.  Foreplay?  Heh....

Wow...ok, I didn't see that one coming at all!  The gremlin is a line to Susan's dad!  And Garibaldi is watching....and she gets to see her father kick it.  *sad face numero dos*

Here's what I like--you've got the diplomatic stuff, Londo's personal foibles, Ivanova's backstory, the spy intrigue, the Centauri slave/politic stuff.  There's a ton of stuff going on, and it's all pretty smooth. Not to mention all the local color in the various bars.  Really does remind me of Star Wars to some extent.

Ah, there's the empath when you need her!

Ivanova and Garibaldi....what will he do.  Very cool, G.  He fixed the computer error..."I don't think it'll happen again. Will it."/"No it won't."
and then the "maybe some other time..."  That was a really nice scene, good groundwork for their relationship, methinks (not shippy ship...not thinking that far ahead).

And, Londo and Adira...she's released from her contract.  Ah, Londo.  He's kind of a romantic, isn't he.

Ok, this episode seems like a good example of what B5 can be--you've got the bigger storyline regarding the politics, as well as all the little personal and personality insights into Londo and Ivanova, and Garibaldi, for that matter.

I'd rate this 4/5 becuase I liked the balance of personal vs big picture.  Well done, B5!

Oh, and I really liked Sinclair in this one too.
