I'm not much of a gambling man, but Pinciotti bet me $20 the Yankees would sweep the Indians. I gave him 4-1 odds the Yankees would lose and the Sox would sweep the Angels. I am now $80 richer and have a bit more respect in the stationhouse. I mean I'm still new meat, but it's not as bad. Pinciotti hates me more than before, which I wasn't sure was possible, but it is. I met one of the homicide detectives, Nina Cassady, last week. She let me in on the big Irish mob bust that went wrong early this past summer, which is probably part of why Pinciotti's dislike of me runs a little deeper than the traditional Irish vs. Italian battle.

Anyway, back to important things, like baseball. I found a great Sox bar, Prof. Thom's in the East Village. They have cheap beer, show all the Pats games too and all the bartenders are Boston fans. Wicked. As far as the playoffs go, I think the Diamondbacks will take the Rockies in that series, but I would like to see a match-up of Colorado and the Sox in the championships. One of my buddies up in Boston has season tickets, so I might get to go up and see a game at Fenway. That would rock. I wouldn't mind seeing Boston riot again like back in '04. I never knew a burning car could be so inspiring.

Outside of baseball season I'm working on expanding my social life. I've met a few people at the bar who are all from New England. One girl, Cristina, is an NYU grad student from right off the Cape. That may have potential, she wants to meet up for drinks outside of a sports bar this week. We'll see. I also saw the sign in the stationhouse for the big Halloween Party. Just like up in Boston, I doubt I can get away with dressing up as a cop. I tried that last year. I'm not all that into those kind of things. Maybe I'll think of something, I'm pretty sure our captain expects us to show up.

I had a missed call from my mom this morning. I haven't called her back yet, so I wonder what it's about. She probably needs help getting out of a fix. So typical of her. I'll give her a call back when I'm done jogging.
