Yesterday I caught the Motion City Soundtrack show at Revolution. 5th time seeing them, 3rd time this year. Why do I still go, because they're fucking awesome. Metro Station was the first band. Mix synth, a disturbing scene guitarist, stupid dance moves, no bass, and a bucket of shit and you got Metro Station. Anberlin was a breath of fresh air. They played harder and better, and actually squeezed in some melodic notes. Pretty fucking good for a band I've never heard of. Mae was next and I was kind of disappointed. I remember them being better 2 years ago. Seems like the front man isn't sure of himself anymore. Anyways, Motion City came on and rocked the joint. They played a bunch of new shit from the 3rd album, but played a good amount of classics as well. I've always wanted to see them perform A-OK, off their 1st album, so Mike and Ernest helped get those requests out. Thing about MCS is that if you request a song not on their set list, they might actually play it. After constantly screaming "A-OK" between songs, a few fans behind me surprising started chanting it as well, until they had to react. Justin had an uncertain look on his face, looks to Josh for reassurance, and they both give that look like "Damn, a song we don't remember how to play." They give apologetic smiles and continue on with the set list. Sucks for me, but I wouldn't be surprised if they never played that song live. End of the show I snatch a set list, meet the band again, and even talk to them about A-OK. They apologized and told me to keep yelling it at the shows and eventually they'll play it again. Sounds like a mission, but hopefully I'll hear it live one day.
Tonight, Halloween, I attended the Fall Out Boy concert. I'll pause now till the laughter dies down... OK. I know, I know, but what can I say, I like their music. Even if they do target all these annoying underage girls, their shows are pretty fun. It took place at the Jackie Gleason Theatre. Nice venue, but for concerts, I'm guessing, the acoustics in the pit suck. I had such a hard time hearing the lyrics or whenever anybody talked on the mic. First band was Cute Is What We Aim For. Their Halloween set up was most of the band coming out in their undies, sporting white bow ties and rabbit ears, kind of a Chippendale/Playboy bunny thing going on. They weren't bad, but they just seem like the kind of band that will be nowhere in a year. Plain White T's was next, no costumes. While better than the 1st band, I got the same vibe from them, only make it 2 years instead of 1. If it wasn't for the monster of "Hey There Delilah", they probably wouldn't have been there. Gym Class Heroes came out, all of them dressed as the mask wearing ninjas from 300. I was looking forward to them the most, and I was right to do so. They added so much fun to the show. From their flawless performance, them covering Van Halen's "Jump", and Travis's fun characteristics, they were the group of the night. I managed to catch one of their drumsticks and my brother caught a 300 costume. Travis later came back and said Fall Out Boy couldn't perform, but he pulled some strings and got a certain band from Vegas to cover for them. Out comes Fall Out Boy, all of four dressed like a different member of Panic! At The Disco, and they start playing a Panic! song. I learn that Pete actually broke his leg or something a few weeks ago, so he's limping around in a weird leg cast. So all the pressure was on the guitarists, who did all the jumps and crazy whirls they're famous for. My thumbs up to him for that and I actually being nice to all the fans in my section, in front of his mic. They recycled the ramp thing from the last time I saw them, only no cool light show or fire. That and the shitty sound from the venue, and a crippled member, this was my least favorite performance. Not saying it was bad, but the other one was better. At the end, the last thing I expected happened. Me not paying attention, I hear my brother scream and I hear a drum stick hit the floor. I instinctively look down and make the quickest dive of my life. With my brother pushing 2 fat bitches away, it was over before I knew it, I had a FOB drumstick in my hand. Count em folks, that's 2 fucking drumsticks in one night! What a fucking rush. Add 2 other drumsticks from previous concerts, I am a drumstick catching master! Can't fuck with this! Well enough already. Hope everyone (if anyone even read this far) had a fun and safe Halloween.
