Summary: Was it really an accident?
Pairings/Characters: Freddie/Julia, Angier, Albert
Rating: R
Freddie thinks she is gorgeous, Angier’s wife. He marvels at how Angier was ever able to woo her. She is simple, childlike. She reminds him of Albert, in a feminine way. Her laugh is rich and flowing, her eyes a bright, sky blue. Her hair falls in soft curls around her beaming face.
Julia finds it increasingly harder to resist Alfred Borden. He is witty, handsome, talented. Rupert is all of these as well, but he is too…familiar. She seeks adventure. Borden is the embodiment of the unknown.
It begins with harmless flirting. Then, they start seeing more of each other. It is casual at first, late rehearsals, coffee, lunch. Angier doesn’t even seem to notice. They progress to what one might call dates. Julia seems fine with the arrangement. Angier is still blind.
Freddie grows bolder. Albert is angry but his brother has made up his mind; he is bringing her to their flat.
The day comes. Julia is jittery. She had lied to her husband; he thinks she is rehearsing again. She knows what is happening and is helpless to stop it. Freddie tells himself that he will not sleep with her, that this is wrong. It is useless. The events have already been set in motion.
Albert comes back too early. Julia is lying in bed when he opens the door. There can be no mistake, Freddie is next to her.
She is shocked, for lack of a more appropriate word. She gathers her things and leaves before either twin has the chance to explain.
Albert and Freddie exchange glances. They know what must be done. Albert volunteers, it is, to a degree, his fault.
Julia smiles at him as he binds her wrists. She sees which knot he is using. But, she is not troubled. She can slip it.
He yanks it extra tight, murder in his eyes.
Or, perhaps if she cannot, she deserves what befalls her.
Her last coherent thoughts are of Rupert and how she has betrayed him. She offers up a silent apology as she inhales deeply only to have her lungs filled with water.
