[Post 034] Video/Action for Olivine City

Oct 13, 2011 01:28

[The video opens in something highly reminiscent of a "home video" style, France's and Envy's faces wobbling a bit in the focus as France steadies his hold. They're taking advantage of the good weather to have a picnic at the beach; there's an open wicker basket and fancy spread in the camera's immediate background featuring angel hair pasta with ( Read more... )

[Here's a random blue-eyed guy with blonde dreadlocks and circular markings on his forehead. He's an alien, but you don't have to know that.]

I wouldn't attack them if I were you - they don't seem to have hostile intentions.

What is that food, by the way?

[France pauses, glancing over his shoulder at the Clamperl that are being chased off by his pokemon and then back at the screen, a cover-up charming smile in place.]

Well, they've been taken care of, so not much else to do now!

The food is oysters with angel hair pasta and a butter cream sauce. Very delicious, if I do say so myself.

Oysters. That explains it. They weren't hostile at all. You should have tried to catch one - they seemed strong.

Those sound delicious, indeed. European specialties, if I'm not mistaken.

[France raises an eyebrow.]

How do you know they weren't hostile?

[He smiles slightly, a bit of his good mood returning.]

Yes! French, of course, and of the highest quality that I could obtain!

Let's see. For starters, they were crying.

"Of course". Meaning, you must be French, correct?

[There's a small twitch at the corners of Gorthan's lips as he tries to hide his enthusiasm at finally meeting a Frenchman. He's studied French culture a lot.]

Crying?

[France looks rather doubtful, but his grin widens at the question, inclining his head with an air of grandness.]

As the Republic of France, I take the utmost pride in my cuisine.

Crying, yes. For their not-so-distant brothers, whom you doomed to such a succulent end.

You are... the Republic of France?

[If this man has a few loose screws, it's not too big of a problem. Gorthan's dealt with people on power trips before - higher caste Evronians tend to just be like that.]

[France rolls his eyes. He has no sympathy for the creatures, obvious by the slight smirk on his face.]

They were very tasty.

[He nods, an air of great arrogance pride about him]

That I am. I exist as the state does, as the Nation himself.

Fascinating. Will you allow me to test that?

[Translation: "I hope you've reviewed your own literature recently".]

[France blinks before shrugging nonchalantly.]

Sure.

[If there's one thing France is an expert on, it's his favorite subject: himself.]

What can you tell me about Antoine de Saint-Exupéry?

[Aaand go!]

[France's lips quirk up into a nostalgic sort of smile.]

Ah, yes, Antoine. A writer and an aviator, a man of the best sort. Whether he was flying or writing, there was always certain beauty to his work that few had. He flew and died for me.

[France falls silent, the same smile on his face but his eyes distant. After a moment, he blinks and seems to reground himself, attention back on Gorthan.]

You're probably prompting me on him based on his writing on aviation and Le Petit Prince. What did you want to hear specifically?

[That smile... that look...

...

... Well! You've unexpectedly passed Gorthan's test! Which means that he will take you seriously from now on. But still... the notion that somebody can be a country is still absolutely crazy.]

... Never mind. I believe you.

So, you are... Marianne?

[France blinks before he breaks out into a grin, eyes lit with a happy, somewhat amused light.]

In a sense, yes. My appearance isn't always like this, and sometimes people will see what they want to see. The nature of a Nation's existence tends to be mutable from a human's perspective, although it's rather simplified here.

That's an interesting concept. That makes you how old, exactly? And, does that mean there is somebody like you for every country?

[Easier question first.]

Yes. For each country, there is a Nation. As for my age...

[France pauses, trying to find the best way to answer these questions. After a while, he shakes his head slightly and sighs.]It's hard to say exactly how old I am. I would say that I'm around 1500 years of age. Most of us Nations don't necessarily have birthdays in the way humans do, so it is difficult to subscribe an age to us. China, for example, could be anywhere between 5000 to 3000 years, although he will usually give you the roundabout of 4000, and even he looks no older than perhaps thirty in human years. Overall, we're not necessarily too concerned with our age in the manner humans are because we simply don't age like them ( ... )
