[Post 034] Video/Action for Olivine City

[The video opens in something highly reminiscent of a "home video" style, France's and Envy's faces wobbling a bit in the focus as France steadies his hold. They're taking advantage of the good weather to have a picnic at the beach; there's an open wicker basket and fancy spread in the camera's immediate background featuring angel hair pasta with ( Read more... )

[Easier question first.]

Yes. For each country, there is a Nation. As for my age...

[France pauses, trying to find the best way to answer these questions. After a while, he shakes his head slightly and sighs.]

It's hard to say exactly how old I am. I would say that I'm around 1500 years of age. Most of us Nations don't necessarily have birthdays in the way humans do, so it is difficult to subscribe an age to us. China, for example, could be anywhere between 5000 to 3000 years, although he will usually give you the roundabout of 4000, and even he looks no older than perhaps thirty in human years. Overall, we're not necessarily too concerned with our age in the manner humans are because we simply don't age like them.

As Nations, we become aware, and, at that point, we are usually in the form of young human children. We grow, should the political and economic climate be kind enough, and, if we are lucky, we reach a point in time when we have the form of the a human adult. It's rare that we grow old enough for our physical age to really matter. The only known example of a Nation growing old enough to "die of old age," in a sense, was Ancient Rome, and he was always a huge exception. Most of the time, we simply aren't one day, for one reason or another, regardless of age.

I see. How interesting. An entire people of personified concepts. How beautiful.

Have you personally ever... taken the life of another Nation?

[He's already assuming the answer is yes, by the way.]

[France smiles.]

It is quite beautiful.

[The smile warps slightly. There's a kind of darkness to it, tinged with a wiry sort of amusement, a far cry from France's normal range of expression. He speaks in placid, gentle tone that doesn't match his expression at all.]

I survived long enough to grow into this form. That is more than I can say for most Nations I have known.

[So, yes. And he doesn't regret it.]

I suspected that. The power and might of a nation can only be built on blood, preferably another nation's. There's nothing new or inherently bad about that, is there?

Sorry about the late response! I've been busy for the past few days TAT of_france November 2 2011, 07:26:22 UTC
[France blinks before letting out a surprised laugh. He grins easily again, although his eyes a bit off still.]

No, I would not say there is.

If you don't mind, I don't think I know your name?

It's alright! I was out of town and without Internet myself. 8D; hasearthbooks November 2 2011, 19:09:47 UTC
My name is Gorthan, and I'm a scientist. But I have many interests, besides my profession.

What should I call you, I wonder?

[France is pretty much himself again, brightening further now.]

You did strike me as a learned man! What sort of science do you practice?

[He shrugs leisurely.]

You may call me "France." Or, if you would prefer a human name, I also go by "Francis Bonnefoy."

I'm a biologist. I specialize in genetic engineering.

Well. Which do you personally prefer?

[France is intrigued.]

I've always found genetic engineering fascinating. I'm guessing you are a researcher?

[He grins a bit at that. It's not a question he hears that often, actually.]

Just "France" will do, thank you.
