miscellany.

#1 on my list of reasons why I am annoyed with my country is not ignorant/misguided Conservatives, nor it is thinly veiled imperialism or even Bible-thumpers, but the fact that there is not a single soul on campus with whom I can have a good old-fashioned rant about football. My roommates tolerate my yelling at the laptop on the weekends, but their eyes start to glaze over when I try to explain the beautiful game to them; and there are a handful of boys to whom I can babble a bit, but I don't see them often. The closest confidant I have come across is my SOSC professor, and she's not even a football fan. (She's writing a book about a group of Cubs fans who consider themselves to be "the last community" in America, and it's fascinating, and I am already pimping it out to whomever is remotely interested in baseball.)

I also wrote a pseudo-essay on Nick Hornby, Fever Pitch, and my altered sense of time perception. Nobody at my other journal seemed interested, though, so I'm linking it here in hopes that someone, somewhere, has something to say.
