So! PT this week, on the defense, and Daggerboy in particular:
While the midfield and strikers worked their socks off, covering every blade of grass in a manner reminiscent of the visiting Valencia side of 2002, it was the defence that deserves special praise for the quality of the interceptions that thwarted a team capable of mesmerising pass-and-move flourishes.
Steve Finnan was sublime in the latter stages of the second half. Jamie Carragher will rightly win most plaudits, and was my Man of the Match. However, I want to reserve special praise for Daniel Agger.
Sami Hyypia, who has been forced to watch from the bench as the Dane continues to develop apace, would have been proud of that display. Centre-half, along with goalkeeper, is the position that takes longest to mature into. In no way does Agger play like a 22-year-old. And it's all the more remarkable seeing as he arrived just over a year ago with less than 30 senior career games to his name.
He's getting stronger physically, and his use of the ball is excellent. He's good in the air, even if it's unfair to expect him to match Hyypia's dominance in that respect. And I enjoyed reading an interview at the weekend detailing his insatiable hunger to win. He's certainly no casual 'fancy Dan' (no pun intended).
His coming of age in the back line has enabled Benítez to employ a different kind of defender at the heart of his back-line, as well as find someone capable of usurping the wonderful Finn. And there's a lot more to come, because age and experience always improves defenders.

In other news, the Valencia boys seem to have taken up waltzing to show that they're not fighters, that we're all just looking for some love. Cañizares says amen to that, but thankfully puts on a proper pair of shorts first.
