The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever.
-Jacques Cousteau
At times like these I wish I had an Etsy shop, or more ideas for one. I've started to put my bento box
to good use. Unfortunately I didn't buy a strap for it, so unless I want it tumbling around in my backpack or purse I have to carry it, which gets tedious. Crochet to the rescue! I don't know how to make a granny square, so I started with a circle and with judicious use of both double and single crochet stitches I ended up with a slightly wavy oval. From there I used a hexagonal net stitch to go up about four rows.
Hexagonal net stitch looks like this:
In searching for an image I found this pattern:
Looks quick and interesting and I can learn the picot, too.
Anyway, this project is nearly done. I need something to lace up the top (Ryan recommends some sort of slick nylon), one of those barrel-shaped squeezable cinching thingies found on jackets and sometimes pants, and to make some handles.
I will post pictures when it's completed, but I used the below yarn, the same yarn that's the middle third of my yoga bag (the ends of that one are yellow). Oh, an unplanned bonus is the option of weaving my chopsticks through the net.
We also went to the scuba shop. Wetsuits are sexifying, even if I might end up resembling Bubbles the tang (yellow mask, flippers, and snorkel). I'm really looking forward to this, getting certified, and eventually getting to dive outside of a swimming pool. I found a neat
book on scuba diving at national parks at the university library. There are a few in the Great Lakes area, almost all in Lake Superior (I think that means investing in dry suit! The site not in Superior is at Sleeping Bear Dunes--not much warmer), and almost all in Michigan (the sole exception being Apostle Islands National Lakeshore in Wisconsin).
To complete the net theme, we're thinking of buying a netbook. Unless Apple decides to spring news of one next week, we're getting the
Dell Inspiron Mini 9. All for now.
